I'm thinking about selling the 185. Serial number 2726D. I wanted to post it here before anywhere else because I was hoping an Allis Chalmers enthusiast would want it. It runs strong but is kind of cold blooded. It doesn't jump out of gear, has hydraulic PTO with 540/1000 rpm. I can get more pictures in a couple days when I'm back at the farm. I'm not sure what to ask for it because I've never seen another one like it. I'm open to input on what it would be worth. I'm not in a rush to sell it but needing to move a few tractors to open up some barn space.

This likely would have been created at a dealer back in the day right? Were there actually any 175/185 tractors came from west allis with nf?

Agco parts book shows 180 185 early serial numbers have a narrow front parts breakdown now that doesn’t say they were shipped that way

Just for a reference, this auction had a couple 100 series NFs in it, the 175 (lot 194) and 180 (lot 133) sold for over $20k.

Good looking tractor,,its not factory but and pieced together, and very interested in buying it,, I think your best bet would be an online auction,, and let everyone bid !

I'll second Doug's comment. IF you're wanting it sold put it on a well known online auction or if you don't mind hauling it maybe on a collectors consignment auction. The 100 series tractors with NF have been bringing amazing money.

Had a friend that ordered a 185 with narrow front around 1970-1971?. The dealer in Danville,Ky. called AC and they built it and shipped it from factory. So yes they were available in early production.

I am wrong on it pieced together,, and very well could be factory built, I Alway forget the 180 and 185,s were built together for a few years, like I said before an Online auction is the way to go, just watched a locked up engine 180 bring 2100 ,, and wasn't nothing special about it,,, a nice 180 nf last spring brought 28,000 at Aumans

Thanks guys for the responses. This tractor was owned by my late brother-in-law who was an Allis dealer going back to the D series. I've been using it in the hay field for a couple years and hate to see it leave because this thing steers amazing. I believe he bought it at an estate auction in Indiana in the early to mid 1990's. He believed it to be a factory narrow front. We've decided to wait until the spring and offer it at one of the collector auctions. I have some other Allis items I'll list on here when I get a chance. Probably some D-15's, maybe some toys and books.

It is a well known fact that there weren't very many One-Eighty narrow front ends ever produced. I can guarantee there were even LESS 185's made with a narrow front. I've got a pretty extensive collection of advertising literature, and the first 185 advertising literature is dated May of 1970, and makes no mention whatsoever of dual front wheels as an option. The next piece of 185 literature is dated October 1972 and it actually DOES mention dual front wheels as an option!! The roll-shift wide front axle was always standard equipment. The last piece of One-Eighty literature is dated Match of 1971 and it clearly calls out the narrow front end and interchangeable front end support as options. So, the parts were certainly available in West Allis to do it, even tho the literature didn't always reflect the availability for the 185.

Would those tractors be candidates for mounted pickers? That would explain the option. In this area livestock and dairy farmers stayed with mounted pickers well into the 80's. Still a few guys doing it and some coming back to it.

I have a nf that was originally off a 180.   From what I’ve read it will only fit a 180 or early 190. Does anyone know what would be different on a 185 or late 190xt or would it bolt right up???

It will bolt right up as long as you have the correct bolster.

How hard would this be to convert to?

Posted By: DrAllis
Date Posted: 14 Feb 2021 at 10:25pm
Not hard to convert at all, IF YOU CAN FIND THE PARTS !!! This would include the all-important front support/front bolster and then the NF pedestal, which is unique to the 180-185-190-190XT.

Well now I know what I'll be looking for thanks. I run our 185 on the TMR mixer and have some maneuvers to do. Plus my front end is in pretty rough shape now so I'd love to see if this would be a possible option. I never understood why Allis never made more NFs like other brands of the era.By chance does anyone know what size tires are on the front of these? If I get that far.

In my opinion the 180 190,s are a little big for a narrow front, they are built and look tough but only on flat land- Is definitely put it on a well advertising online auction- it will bring big $$$$$

Your NF 185 serial 2726D is a 1971 year model.

See this post originated in November 2019. So KW269, did you keep or sell your NF 185?

I still have the tractor. Was going to sell it last spring but everything was shutting down and we decided to wait. We'll sell it eventually just not sure when.
