I just bought a Model B. Could not decipher if there was a number next to the shift lever but on the axle housing left of the driver was the number ?m-2787-13. It has a magneto and the wide operator seat. Anyone know what year range this may be? |

The number is probably AM 2787 13 which is a casting number. all of the "B" tractors came originally with a wide seat.. They started building about 1938 and ran for 20 years. There were a few changes, but nothing that you need the serial number to worry about... There might be a MOTOR serial number on the flange at the bell housing area... but the serial number on the TRANS by the shift lever is the real TRACTOR Serial Number.. Very early numbers had hand brakes, and rims held to the hub with rivets. The motor was 116 cubic inch, then changed to 125 inch. During the war, there were tractors with tall air cleaners, cast iron valve covers and oil pans, and steel wheels... After the war there were very few changes from the late 1940s to the late 1950s .... when the CA came out after 1950, there were extra lugs cast into the torque tube, etc .... All parts interchange thru the years, so you don't have to worry about the "year" unless your just curious. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Serial number says B4800, makes it a 1938 B. It has a aftermarket or dealer add on Monroe Seat. ------------- 1938 B, 79 Dynamark 11/36 6spd, 95 Weed-Eater 16hp, 2010 Bolens 14hp |
