Couple things I need advice on:
(1): how are you supposed to get the forks back into the transmission and lined up correctly? It's figuratively impossible!! 😆
(2): how tight should the differential be in the rear? How much force should it take to turn it?
I'm slowly getting my B back together again. Thanks

The service manual may have some helpful hints:

I have read it until my brain melted. Still didn't help me.

Getting those forks lined up is a piece of cake! It is all about crossing your eyes with your cap on side ways and only slightly biting your tongue sliding the forks into the grooves in the slide gears.
If you would video me replacing a side plate with forks that is most likely what would show up.

Actually the slide gears can not be bumped as you guide the forks into them. I have done it many time and do not think I have never not bumped one of the slide gears on the first try. I try to line the gears with the forks so the screw holes in the plate to line up with the transmission holes and keep them lined up as I guide the forks in. When you try to look behind the plate it is hard to hold the plate square with the transmission side.

Are you trying to set the back lash on the bull gear with the shims or something else that is tight?

Yea the back lash on the gear in the pinion.

You will need to shim it over by taking shims from one side to the other until you get somewhere around.005 with both sides bolted tight as I remember. My transmission book is not handy for me to look it up at the moment.
