My neighbor has a 8050 and after shifting hard for a couple hrs the range shifter is stuck in neutral. Unbolted both cables they work fine, the shifter moves side to side freely to enter park but will not budge forward or back.

Anybody ever here of this, don't like the idea of tearing into this.

Well, I think it's better than the tractor stuck in high or low range when the lever is in neutral, which usually means a seizure of a gear on the pinion shaft.

Remove the seat, floormat, and the access panel under the seat. There is another access plate on the top of the range transmission. Clean that area good before removing the plate. Once the plate is off, that will let you see the range shift fork .There could be a problem there. Try shifting it with a bar or large screwdriver. If you don't find the problem, take the two bolts out that hold the fork to the shift cover.  The fork won't come out through the top , but it can be positioned so that you should be able to shift the sliding collar pretty easily by hand. There may  be a problem in the actual shift cover and that can be removed by taking the left hand fuel tank down. Two of the bolts in that round cover are special, pay attention to their position. The shift cover has the park pawl, shift rails, and detents in it and can all be removed and inspected for damage. With the cover removed, you can plainly see the range gears and the shift collar and it should slide quite easily. It's always easier if the fuel is low and the right wheel is moved out before taking off the range shift cover.

I bought an 8010 last year and you could barely shift from high to low. I took the cable off the transmission side and it didn’t feel like it had much drag. I then put the new cable on and it made a world of difference. Now it shifts like it should. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

Any resolution? This sounds very much like my 7010's issue.
