Well,,I love discussin shootin irons,,,,,,  I ain't as excited as other years cause I did not draw out CHIT this year,,,!! But I'll still talk firearms,,,, I love ole "Meat In The Pot", my Ruger in 7 MM magnamous for the big Elks and deers we hunt. It is made to bring em down at great distances ,,,but you can't be missin too many shots cause thet sob kills at both ends,,,,, If I was gonna be huntin in thick brush or heavy forest,,,just give me a lever action 30-30 or a lever action Savage 99 in .300 savage,,,and then for coyotes just hand me my Remington model 70 in 25-06,,,and then,,,,,

Remington pump 12ga. or 22cal semi-auto, depending on the target. I couldn't find correct ammo, or firearm, so that 12ga. slug skinned that muskrat clean thru! ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |

I've got a 9 shot 22 revolver that I bought used before shot shells came in plastic cups. So I had the rifling removed from it. I wanted to use shot shells inside barns to shoot sparrows and starlings. It works very well for that and no harm to the barns. Haven't used it in many years. I do most of my hunting with a Mauser/Douglas 25-06 and most of my fun shooting with a 1022 or 12 gauge. My wife and I both have 9mm handguns that we haven’t spent near enough time with. I’m not very good with mine at all. Need lots of practice. I want an old high Standard 22 semi auto pistol. |

That Remington 552 is a fine .22, I still have Dad's plus his Target Master single shot, think it is a model 550. Marlin 336 in 30-30 or 35 Rem is my favorite brush gun. Baby Glock in 9mm is my constant companion. Have seldom met a gun I didn't like. Need to get back to the range with my granddaughter, she can go through a 100 rounds in nothing flat and most times she outshoots grandpa. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

I have an interesting one tat I inherited from pop. It says Ranger on the barrel that looks to be about an inch in diameter. .22 cal This is one of those oldies but goodies that does not have a serial number on it.  |

My favorite shooting iron is my Ruger Super Blackhawk. I practice shooting milk jugs at 100 yards. Don't hit it every time but close enough to scare the doo doo out of the jug. ------------- We the unwilling Led by the unqualified Doing the impossible for the Ungrateful |

| I usually chase everything with bow and arrow. I haven't used a shotgun since that last party hunt with a group of hunters I didn't know some twenty five years ago. But I do hunt black powder with my Remington 700 in 50cal. Varmints get a .22 round out my dad's Marlin lever action or my S&W .44 Magnum. Or one of my cap and ball revolvers. They're all fun. |

Hubert, The Remington 550 is a semi auto, I think a predecessor to the 552, the single shot that comes to mind is a 510. I have the 510, 511, 512, 513, and 514 all bolt action. Well durn now I'm not sure if I have a 513, I'll have dig in the safe sometime, any way always liked the Remingtons.. |

I also love guns. I only have 11 (not counting air guns), so I've got room for more. And I don't even hunt. Below is my very first gun and my first true firearm. The top gun is a Daisy 99 Champion BB gun. I got it when I was 9 years old. As you can see it still looks good. I must have wore it out as a kid, because it no longer fires. It will cock and shoot, but nothing comes out the barrel. I would love to get it to work again. The other gun is a little youth model double barrel .410. I got it when I was 12. The brand is Noble, it's the only Noble gun I've ever seen. I still remember the first time I brought down a dove on the wing with this shotgun. A feat I never accomplished with my previous air guns. I thought I really had a weapon. I use it mainly today to chase dogs out of the pasture field My latest gun purchase is a Savage Axis in 6.5 Creedmoor. I got this budget rifle to keep at the barn for coyotes. It shoots pretty good, but the bolt action is not as smooth as my Remington 700. |

 Mostly old codgers,we tend to go back the what we are familiar with. Doesn't mean there is not some new stuff that is better.I have been privileged to have some very good 22's over the years. Starting with a Winchester bolt gun that was as plane as they came, but would shoot a empty case out of the first hole in the card board if you did your part. A Remington heavy target barreled bolt gun, a Marlin lever gun, and Ruger 77-22. The Ruger is fussy about what you shoot or 22 amo has just got worse than the old days.And in Land of Fruits and Nuts to kill anything bigger than a fly  you need to use copper. Just the first step in weaning  us from all shooting, make it harder and more costly and there will be less that care next time. The only gun I have ever really been disappointed in is the single shot break open 223. Was to be the buried in the pickup coyote getter. Part of it is the trigger, but a number of friends worked on different loads and nobody has found one it really likes. But was told it would shoot real good or really bad before I bought it.

Ray is that break over 223 a NEF/H&R? If so they made 2 different rifelings for the 223 and one was much better than the other. I don’t recall which? I have one in 22 Hornet and it’s a tack driver. |

Yep Thad a H&R. The trigger had lots and lots of creep and over travel and was as hard as any I ever used. Two or 3 gunsmiths said they would not touch it. My son who does the reloading finally found somebody to play with it and now it's way to light for my liking. The ejector also is weak maybe if he would full lenght resize, but you needed welding rod handy just in case. The coyotes have been hiding better so it sits in the safe. I have bolt 22 Hornet if I want to go after ground squirrels at more than long rifle range. But with the Rugar 77-22 I don't mind 100 yard shot if it is not windy.

I've done a little internet searching on the Daisy 99 in the past. The plunger does seem to be a common problem. Others have fixed theirs. I haven't been able to find anything in the way of parts for it. |
