It's been a couple years since I moved the 45 and a couple more than that since I used it for anything. Last time I ran it, it didn't want to start very well and sputtered some after getting going. I started by draining the fuel tank, cleaned the sediment bowl, added fresh gas and flushed some thru the carb by pulling the drain plug on the bowl. Tried to fire it and no go. So I took a look at the points and they were a bit fuzzy green around the edges so I cleaned them, still no go. Checked the coil and it showed bad, so I put a good one in and still no go. I had tried to check the condenser with my meter and thought it showed good, but decided to pull the points and condenser. Filed the points just a touch to clean them a bit better than the sand paper in the tractor trick. Condenser checked OK. Put it back together, set the points and no fire. This morning I had to run to town, so I picked up a new condenser at NAPA. Finally got out late this afternoon and put in the new condenser and it fired up and ran smooth as silk as soon as the starter turned it over. On closer inspection, it looks like the wire on the condenser has a cut in the insulation. I think it got caught under the distributor cap and pinched a crease in the insulation.  Now what? I have one little job I want to do with the loader but think I'm gonna move the old girl down the road soon. I hate to see it just sit around and the shed she's been in is in bad need of removal. She leaks hydraulic fluid more than she used to, and the power steering has never been the best, but still works. CTucker, I have had things like this continue down hill and sometimes I get out of the mood. I am sure you will find a good home for it too. They are good tractors. Your tune up brought it back to life! I have a backwoods internet connection, but finally got it uploaded to youtube. Toward the end of the clip, I flipped the add on 3 way valve to raise the lift arms, but she's low on fluid and it was all used up, to raise the loader half way. She's a bit crusty looking, but that don't seem to bother her much  The rear tires were weather checked when I bought it in 1982 or 83. It's always ran good since I bought it, until I let it set unused for too long. It had been OH at the Lions,Iowa(Clinton) dealer not long before I got it. I did a valve job on her some years back, which helped considerably with cold winter starts for plowing snow. The valves and guides in my 35 WC were in real good shape, but I had already bought a complete OH kit for it when I took this head off to mill the manifold ports back flat and put a new gasket set on. Yeah, those valves are sealing up nice, Charlie! Amazing how critical that @#% condenser is, ain't it? Simple is great, but that doesn't mean it's perfect... it just is... ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |
