Got my 8030 PD fwa split and found the splines on the torque limiter totally gone nothing lol. While I have it apart I was thinking of looking at the transmission brake. Anyone got a part number for it having a hard time finding anything online.
Thx Mark

You will either have to take the transmission out or remove the hydraulic pumps and go up through that hole to get at the brake.

Ah okay so the transmission brake is not part of the main clutch at all then. I do have the pumps off as I checked them first for any issues that would have taken the torque limiter out but they are in good shape.
Thx

It isn't very easy to do it through that hole, but it can be done. They don't usually give much trouble.

What I have learned from this forum is that it usually is not the brake that is the problem. It is the adjustment being off. I am not experienced enough to say one way or the other.

Okay got the unit back together and broke in the torque limiter as per service manual and adjusted the tranny brake. All good on that front. All oils up to proper level and baled hay with it this summer for 30-40 hrs. The problem now is I don't have FWA or Hi-Lo in tranny and it all worked before.
Could I be overlooking something simple. The FWA solenoid is clicking but not engaging ?
Any ideas experience greatly appreciated.
Thx Mark

Couple of things. If the engine harness was disconnected at the firewall or the power steering hoses were disconnected in the same area then something maybe isn't making connection in that area. There are also a couple of small black wires that ground to the frame on each side of the tractor. Check the right side, close to where the rubber strap is that secures the back of the hood. I doubt that you are hearing the solenoid click although they can be heard if you listen closely. You may be hearing the switch click or a relay down by the fuse panel instead.

Double checked the ground they good, Bypassed switch and the relay with a separate wire. It is clicking. I wonder if a piece/chunk of debris got stuck in one of the lines or in the fwa solenoid ?
Question: Once the solenoid is engaged does it use hydraulic pressure to apply a clutch pack ?
Thx

Yes, I suppose it's always possible for a piece of something to get in and cause a problem. The FWA valve isn't very easy to get at without removing the right side fuel tank. The power director valve is easy to check by swinging the batteries out. Should have power and ground when in the high side. And yes, when the front wheel switch is on,it sends power to a solenoid, and then lets oil go to a clutch pack.

On a side note to this problem, I personally have never had to go into the FWA valve on a tractor. I have had to replace at least one FWA solenoid. And,other than the idler shaft and bearing updates on new tractors, I have never had to repair a clutch pack either.

Have you checked clutch switch adjustment? MACK

The switch that Mack is referring to is above the clutch pedal. It makes the power director kick down to the low side every time the clutch is depressed. That switch could cause a power director shifting problem, but wouldn't have anything to do with the FWA. Mack, do you remember if the early tractors with a fuse panel had a common fuse for the FWA and power director??? Later tractors used circuit breakers.

I don't remember. Both not working makes you think same fuse, breaker. Or wire. MACK
