| What other AC tractors use the same trans. as a D14? (Serial # D14 9562) Mine is jumping out of 3rd gear. I'd also be interested in which gears (part #s) would be needed to repair the problem. I'd be interested in buying a cheap parts tractor with the correct trans. in good shape. Within 150 miles of 13811. thank you all, gregjo1948 |

It won't be the gears since it's a constant mesh transmission. The dogs are probably worn. It could be a bearing too. Replacing the transmission with another used transmission may only be replacing the problem of one transmission with that of another. Expect to do a complete overhaul and it won't be cheap. |

I removed the trans side cover with the shifting forks. I heated and tweaked the 3rd/2nd gear fork a tiny bit. This resulted in it staying in 3rd gear but, popping out of 2nd gear. Obviously, 2nd and 3rd speeds are shifted by the same fork. This leads me to believe it's not a bearing problem. When you say "dogs" are you referring to the "nubs" that are part of the gears? If so, then, I would think by replacing the 2 gears, related to the 3rd gear popping out problem, that should solve it. By looking in the trans., I can see the rounded/worn gears that I believe to be the problem. If I were to buy a used trans., I'd pull the cover off and check the condition of those gears. 'somewhere' long time ago, there were GREAT pictures posted of what goes wrong... I seldom get into 3rd but I know 1 of the 3 here is fine.others will pop out... they end to pop out when you let up on the gas or slow down or go down a hill, never under load. I recall new parts are over 1000 greenbacks ! hopefully someone can locate the pictures.... You can log in as a guest user at the AGCO parts book site and use the on line parts catalog for the D14 to find your part numbers. With those numbers you can do web searches for what you need. The splines on the gear aren't the only thing that wears. The sliding collar that your fork fits on, will be as bad inside, as the gear hub spline. If you are going to do transmission work might as well replace the shifting collar. If the gears were damaged they were too. Good Luck! Bill Long
