I recently purchased a CA with a replacement 125 power unit engine in it. It has a magneto instead of a distributor but it runs fine but on the other side it has a very small auto lite generator with a cutout on it. Would this have been original equipment or a replacement generator someone has put on it? It looks factory but i have never seen one before. Any information as to the wiring or testing would be appreciated.

If 12 volt it is a replacement. But with the cut out it is very likely a 6 volt and original. Allis used both Delco and Autolite generators and starters so either one could be original.

i BELIEVE IT TO BE 6 VOLT AND IT IS STILL POSITIVE GROUND BUT CAN'T BE SURE ABOUT THE GENERATOR SOMEBODY HAD PUT AN OLD 12 VOLT BATTERY IN IT AND WHEN I PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT THE FIRST THING IT DID WAS TO BREAK THE BENDIX SPRING WHICH IS COMMON. SURE WISH I COULD FIND SOMEONE WHO STOCKS THE NEW RUBBER CUSHIONED BENDIX.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

Early CA's didn't have a distributor. They came with a magneto. I imagine power units were the same way, probably even after the distributor was standard on the CA, because you probably didn't have a starter, generator and battery on power unit applications.

Are parts for this autolite generator still available and does someone on the forum stock them? I would like to keep it all original if possible.
Sure hope next year at the GOTO here in northern New York that some vendors will come and even maybe have a few people put on some brief seminars during the show. Any one interested in doing this please just send me a message on the forum.

I also have a bunch of NOS Auto-Lite armatures. If you tell me the number on yours, I may have a match.
