Local police chief removed her gun when using the bathroom in a fast food place yesterday and forgot it. Before finishing her meal remembered and went back but it was gone. By looking over video a probable homeless man has it.

She was in front of public before the day was over apologizing and admitting her mistake. This is the liberal end of the county and yes she is one of the LGBT people, for what it matters to the mistake.

Some are demanding she be fired. I am wondering if there is something in the rules in many department for such things as this kind of mistake.

Part of reason for public outrage is another police chief local but different town left her gun in her car in front of her house. Was never any public knowledge of this missing gun until it was used in a crime and another town police had along with a crook. Then this chief was asked to leave because of cavorting with men she picked up in bars. She left with a good sized check in her pocket.

Probably should be fired.  Surprised if this isn't specifically covered in existing regulations.

If this were me I'd be fined, have to pay court costs, get 90 days lock up. But if you work for the Gov, you get paid???

wow.. wonder if she can be held as an accomplice when HER gun is used to commit a murder ??
at least the ballistics will be on file...

She ponied up to the mistake, so not fired, maybe $1000 fine( cost of the weapon and bullets),permanent reprimand on file, say 10hrs community service ?

Sad thing is HER weapon is out 'there' !

jay, actually, it seems I remember something about the weapon being used in a crime and the cop being tied to it from dad’s days as a cop....but maybe not. Can’t say for sure. Owning up to it or not, I’d be surprised if she doesn’t end up being fired. Not saying right/ wrong, just my feeling.

I was looking for law enforcements take on this and if it is covered in the do's and don'ts lists departments have.

As I said the liberal end of county and 25 years in 2 or 3 or 4 departments working up to chief by jumping to a new town about 5 years ago. Would not surprise me for the gun to be turned in or found. Camera only had 3 people entering after chief,2  were still eating when she started looking for the gun. The other used the bathroom and left without ordering food, had the looks to most likely be homeless. The city has several creeks that are filled with homeless.

Would not surprise me if she doesn't get a golden handshake to retire.

Ray my question is what was she doing in the men’s bathroom or what was the suspect doing in the women’s bathroom? Something to ponder.

if she made it known within her department, then got the guns serial number and description and other info into the nation crime computer (NCIC), then notified surrounding departments, no she prolly won't be fired. this has happened countless times across the nation. she's human. depending on what her departments rules and regulations say, as each department has their own. if you left your keys in a vehicle and it was stolen and used in a crime, should you be held responsible?

Using the vehicle, well......for what crime?  You use a gun to commit armed robbery, or kill someone, or maybe sexual assault at gun point.....The car?  Do you turn on the lights and pull somebody over to rob them?  Or joy ride???  IDK....just sayin'.

Well a person who has made it to chief should have known better but she did admit the mistake. She could have swept it under the rug and crossed her fingers. Maybe she should stick with a taser.

Yes, that's what I'm saying.  So, . . . .yeah, probably would be held responsible if there was negligence involved the car being stolen.  At least I think so.  No other authority than that!WinkEmbarrassed

But I'm talking about police officers here, being held to a higher standard.  Not civilians.

Common for small fast food places to have one person facilities that are label m/f. The doors auto lock and you need a code to unlock on most I have been to lately that are fast food. With idea being customers only, the homeless getting more and more.

Just visiting with friends over lunch at a fast food place,  Witnessed a homeless come in with his cup from the garbage fill it up at the soda machine and sit down at a table and has a conversation with ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused himself.

the laws are dif in each state Jay, here the driver would be just an accessory to the crime. might get the same punishment, might be a lessor punishment.

For me it's always Murphy's Law.  Hell in this state it's getting almost illegal to have the thought of owning a gun.

That's cause you live in MN Elliott.  You've got an illegal alien in Congress and your state and mine are listed BLUE.....STUPID DEMOCRAPS.....

Here in WI, if your car is used in a crime, and you left the keys in the car, you're in deep doodoo.  If they just steal your car, you're not at fault.  Kinda makes EVERYONE liable for their own actions.  Something that needs a little looking at again.
