Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has, or could take, a picture of thier HD6G's instrument panel as well as the front facing side of their battery box where it looks like a Hobbs meter was originally installed.
I am missing all the gauges and the Hobbs meter. I don't even know what gauges were originally installed from the factory, nor thier high or low limits. Of course I don't know what they looked like either.
I do know that Stewart Warner made the original gauges but without a picture of the originals I can only guess which of thier current gauge styles look closest to the originals.
I figured that a picture was the easiest thing I could ask for that would help me figure out what I need to go look for. Perhaps a shot from the operator's manual or parts book is better? I could not find pictures or an operator's manual drawing of either the gauges or Hobbs meter on the WEB.
Also, if anyone has a set of gauges for the HD6G that they would be willing to sell, please let me know. Original gauges would be my preference, but I would also consider a differnt brand of gauges as well.
Speaking of different brands. Stewart Warner gauges are great quality products. However they are more than a bit pricey for my beat up and rusty old girl. Does anyone know of a decent off-brand of gauges that look close to the originals? I am not looking for junk gauges. The off-brand should show resonably accurate data. I am just looking to trade-off moderately lower accuracy or operating life for some reduction in price is all.
Before I get inundated let me say that I am fully aware of the ageless quality/price trade-off better known as the statement "You get what you pay for". I acknowledge that cheaper gauges could be an example of a false economy, especially if an inacurate or stuck gauge results in engine damage. However, I got to think that there must be a middle ground between top of the line USA made gauges and made in China junk gauges.

The original hour meter is mounted on a bracket under the hood near the dash. You can purchase stewart warner gauges (even the HD series) from summitracing.comMost of them are in the $30-$60 range depending on series.
I am using 1 new stewart warner on my HD16

When you get the pic of which gauges you need, I agree with Cal on SW gauges
I replaced my fuel pressure and oil pressure gauges with SW gauges snd the fit and function are great. Look original. Also they were “bolt on” so no special brackets or adapters needed.
