180 hard shifting power director?

My 180 has been getting really hard to shift the power director from high to neutral. Low to neutral works fine and neutral into high is fine. Once it’s in high it takes a lot of effort to pull it down into neutral. Any ideas? Thanks

Oil the handle pivot bushing and detent ball with WD40.

Where is the detent ball located? Behind the side panel/under the steering column? Thanks.

Spray uphill with a plastic stem works best.
If you can't figure it out take the top off of the instrument panel.

The housing that holds the detent gets worn to where it tries to follow lever and locks in. MACK

I pulled the instrument cover off and sprayed oil on the detent spring like Dr. Allis prescribed and it now it shifts really easy. Thanks for the advice!

beware! IF the roller has a groove worn in it or the cast iron piece with the slots in it , it can cause the lever to pull back some, thus possibly reducing the pressure on the high side cultch and causing slippage. Happened to my 185 that had lots of hours and usage.
70254663 , that is the late series - the early series had a ball that detents in the grooves of the quadrant - we have seen the same thing on the early type letting the lever pull back. To check simply push the lever forward and see if it can be moved a significant amount.
