Is there a trick to greasing the 3 spindles on my Woods L306 mower deck? the zerk in each of the spindles is very low down on the deck. Not enough room for the tip of my grease gun to latch on for 2 of the 3. I can get grease in one of the 3, but the cup (seal or bearing cap I assume) pops up under the pressure of the grease going in. Any ideas on this topic ? ------------- Chris in NE Florida |

| I agree it's a tight fit, but I can usually get on all three zerks on mine. Make sure you've removed as much grass/dirt/old grease as you can from around the zerk. You might have to try putting a different tip on your grease gun. Good luck. |

If you are pushing the seal out by pumping grease in, you already have too much grease in there, STOP pumping. You can also install extensions that move the zerk away from the spindle. Check your local auto supply store. ------------- What this country needs is more unemployed politicians-and lawyers. I had the same problem on my deck, to remedy it, I moved all the pulleys up higher on the shaft to allow more clearance for the grease gun. Worked great, now no problem greasing them, but I don’t run the guards on my deck, don’t know if they would need spacers to clear the higher pulleys or not, never had the covers to try. If this hadn’t worked I was going to add grease lines to each spindle and make a block to mount the lines, so that all would be greased from one location. Big trucks used to have plastic lines to all grease fittings and automatic grease assemblies to automatically grease the truck going down the road. I bet those lines and fittings are still available. How about a (what I call) needle nose for the gun. I use mine quite often to get into pesky places like small U Joints. My needle nose is screwed onto a metal tube that screws into the out put end on the grease gun. That way you can keep both hands on the gun and the pressure needed to keep the needle nose firmly into the center of the zerk. |
