I'm getting a early 1960s hd3. It runs good and opperstes pretty good. It needs a battery. Does anyone know the correct battery size I need? And does it only need one.

I would get a group 31 commercial battery at least 950 cca. No time for a cheap battery here. That's what I used

No need for extra big
just a regular size battery
where does your battery mount?

you only need one. my h4 has a 650 cranking amps. just need one that has pretty good cranking amps but having said that if you don't get your charging your battery wont last and they are expensive. for around 50-60 bucks you can put a delco alternator on it. just a little advice. good luck.

H4 had a Delco Alternator and I used a single 800/900 AH battery in that along with my HD5 and my 715B - got the same battery in my 70 series GMC and in pickups but 2 in trucks for snow plow hookups, also used same battery in NH 785 skid loader  . I just use a automotive battery with 5 or 6 year warrenty and change them out if they go bad.
I changed HD5 over to a Alternator also - biggest problem is of diode treo goes bad it will drain battery backfeeding .
