Hello all. Neighbor has a 185 diesel with a roosa master fuel pump. When I grind feed or just drive it down the road im having trouble with low engine power, engine rpm fluttering, and the engine dieing. After 15, 20mins of running the engine will begin to show the signs listed above and eventually die. I've changed fuel filter twice, sediment screen, drained fuel tank, checked on fuel flow from tank and all is good. When the engine starts to lose power, it make take 2,3 mins before it dies, when it dies I simply push the start button and it fires right away and will run great for another 15 20mins before going through the same problems. Does not smoke, no fuel leaks. I'm leaning towards something sticking in fuel pump... If it was a fuel flow problem I don't believe I'd be able to start it right away and run great and would have to prime fuel system. But you guys are the experts so I'll take your advice. Thanks!

On the top cover of the injection pump, there is a rubber hose connected to the fuel return line. Remove the rubber hose from the injection pump fitting. Remove the fitting from the brass elbow on the pump (takes 7/16" wrench). Take this special fitting to a bench grinder and lightly grind on the very end of the threads to loosen up the crimp that holds the washer in place. Pry out the washer, remove the glass ball, and remove the small spring. BLOW air thru the fitting to be sure it is open. Reinstall on the pump and if the tractor now runs fine, it is soon time for an injection pump overhaul. You can nurse it along like this for a while, but plan on some downtime and expense to repair the pump correctly.

seems like a weekly thing. Great advice from the Dr, as always. I rebuild a lot of pumps just for this issue! Modern fuel attacks the flex ring in a much shorter time than the old days lol!

Yep. No just an AC issue it's a,Roosa Master issue. Same thing happened in my 706. Same diagnosis,same fix with the return check ball. Same answer. Buy new pump.

Had that happen with are 180. Needed a pump rebuild like Dr. said. Once the pump is rebuilt problem will go away.

When these pumps are rebuilt due to flex-fail, are they repaired with an "up graded" part? We had the pump rebuilt on the F2 for this same reason.

My own 180 did fine cleaning the return fitting until absolutely died, then the pump went to the shop.

When many shops "rebuild" these, they only put a new flex ring back in, because they want to see the pump again in a few years, of course once it's out of warranty lol! 99% of the ones I do here in my shop do get the EID weight retainer, which appears solid, bit is still 2 pieces cushioned with rubber bumpers inside. The rare occasion I put another flex ring in is a parade only, or museum tractor.

As always THANK YOU ALL for sharing your knowledge and experience! I've been told by the neighbor The fuel pump is being rebuilt at a local shop that he's used before so fingers crossed they fix it right 🤞 hoping to get to run her when she gets back
