| Hi, first question, Alternator quit on my 8030. It is a Neihoff. Holy crap, almost $1600 for that one from dealer. Napa is little over a $1,000. It is 100 amp alternator. Can I put a 60 amp single wire delco alternator on it since the Niehoff is single wire. I don't see why it needs that much amperage compared to my 8070 with the 3 wire alternator with that output. I do use this tractor to round bale (Hesston 856A) with but that's about it. Which leads to my next question, I have a couple of the stadium lights burnt out. Thinking about some amazon LED lights. See some on there for a pack of 2 for 23.99. These are 204W and side shooting. What is too bright of a light. And I thought LED's didn't take much amperage, but would i be drawing alot of amps with this light. It is about 2 miles down the highway to the hay patch and not much traffic, but don't want to blind someone either. So thinking I could adapt to LED's and really shouldn't have much need to use a high amp alternator on the tractor. I really don't bale a whole lot at night, but usually finishing up a couple hrs after dark. Any alternator could work.... Those lights are very powerful!! Might consider smaller ones. If you don't put them far enough from the windshield I think they'll give you a glare in the cab. Not to mention you'll need a big alternator. But you could be the first and give us a first hand report.

Are the LED lights are 204 watts or 204 "equivalent" watts? An LED lamp that uses 204 actual watts will should just about light up an entire field. |

I would fix the alternator you have. It's usually easy - brushes, bearings and diodes are normally fairly inexpensive. Alternator/starter shops should be able to help you with the parts. My International has a big Delco alternator that was hundreds of $. I think it cost $12 for a set of brushes to fix it. ------------- 1975 7040 w/Power Director |

them Niehoff have gold in them somewhere.....I replaced the one on my 7060 with a Delco replacement from shoup, comes with new pulley and wiring directions, as its a little different to make the tach work. ya can't use the pulley off the Niehoff, it has a smaller diameter shaft than a delco IIRC Wilson electric makes a direct niehoff replacement,,but,,,its like $600 joelsplace,,, even if ya can find repair parts for a Niehoff they are HI-DOLLAR,, total different animal than a Delco.. ..I'm gonna find the gold in that one I took off my 7060 someday......

Go to Agtalk and search for Petersen performance he’s a Tiger light dealer. He hooked me up with my LEDs for my 8030 very happy with them. As far as the alternator get it rebuilt. ------------- 8030 and 8050MFWD, 7580, 3 6080's, 160, 7060, 175, heirloom D17, Deere 8760 |

Neihoff alternators are a little different. They have a built-in generator, regulator and alternator. There may be one wire coming out, but it's not a one wire alternator. I've never been into one, but I suspect there's a reason why you won't find rebuilt ones at a dime a dozen. |

Your better off with a replacement Delco especially for down the road when it comes time to service it again. | Ended up getting a 105 Amp delco alternator. Fred's electric in Lincoln Ne overhauls alternators and starters said not worth spending the money on rebuilding as parts are very high for that brand of alternator as I could easily could get 5-600 into it. New alternator works great. I ordered (2) 22 Watt LED's off amazon. I'll see how they work on the front and maybe get a few more if I like. I only put on about 20 hrs a year on the tractor. So it should last me a long time. |
