I'm looking for a plow for my D17. I see the 389 bottom can still get aftermarket wear parts, so I'm leaning that way. It looks like the 60, 70, and 80 all could be had with the 389 bottom. What was the difference between the 3? Any one of them work better on a D17 than another? Is the 389 the only bottom you can still get shares for, or would all the 60-80 bottoms have good parts supply?

80 series is a 70 series with trip bottoms. 70 and 80 series are adjustable width. 60 series is fixed width I think.

Is there a way to tell the 389 bottom from the others? Or will the 389 shares fit the other bottoms? If I remember right, the 389 is the only bottom listed for aftermarket shares in the Shoup catalog.

Dr. is correct. Gerald had a lot of good information posted in the knowledge based forum on the gazillion different bottoms AC used on these plows. I cannot verify that any of those series plows ever had 389 bottoms from new, maybe the very latest ones. More than likely you will find these plows with 387 or 370-360-330 series bottoms and have to swap 389s from a newer plow. You would need to do some number crossing to see if the shares will interchange. The bolt patterns changed over time.

The post on plow bottoms and plows over on the Knowledge Forum includes detail descriptions of the different model plow frames. The bolt holes on the bottom ends of the plow shanks tend to be the same so different plow bottoms can be installed using 9/16" bolts but to change plow bottoms the plow frog that holds the plow parts has to match the plow bottom. In some cases the same cutting edge AC called blade was used on several plow bottoms. The landsides were almost universal used the same parts on most all plow bottoms in my plow bottoms book. Moldboards were different for nearly every plow bottom.

Near that post there are links to online copies of the plow frames parts book and the plow bottoms book. I don't know if the links still work.

Thanks. I haven't looked at the plow parts books yet. I know they are on AGCO parts. Was looking for a quick answer. Should have known better given the wide variety of plows and parts they used.

All the differentfrogs will bolt to all the different plow frames.
