My good college buddy who is a strong blue man is looking at a 6080 for sale. I was talking him through some of the quirks of the tractor and discussed the thrust bearing issue. As such I am having trouble finding in my resources the tractor serial number break when the internal engine updates were made negating the need for the external thrust bearing kit. Does anyone know what that tractor serial number is?

210postin, you are correct. They should be greased and clearances checked every time you change oil. MACK

Well I should not even say this but Iam going because people seem to be ignorant ,have a 6080 that does nothing but pto work everyday 1800 hours since rebuild .Check endplay on crank with a feeler gauge with every oil change and grease thrust bearing . Have not had to shim anything in 1800 hours of pto work ,moral of the story is take five min and check tractor a feeler gauge is a simple thing to use .Not to be a ass but these are very good tractors so when you feel smart and dont know anything first hand just keep your mouth shut hope I was clear about these tractors have a good day .

Just who are you ticked at? I don't see anyone bashing these tractors.

Wow this response is just plain out of line. This is a message board where fellow AC owners discuss anything related to Allis Chalmers equipment. If you don't like poeple asking questions then simply move on. Allis released a service bulletin on these tractors so don't act like this is not a common or well known issue with the 6000 series tractors.

With 5 6080 s in the family 10000 hrs of CORRECT PTO work won't hurt one at all and yes the oldest one has little over 11000 hrs now 1000 hrs of INCORRECT PTO operation will kill one short and yes all of ours have a bra on the end of story

Nobody on this thread was running down these tractors. Hell, most of us that reply to questions about them own one or more. The thrust bearing issue is a known flaw that even the factory admitted to back in the mid 1980's. Running the PTO does not cause wear to the bearing, it's when the lever is pulled back in the "off" position for prolonged periods of time that wears on that thrust bearing. That's where the "bra" helps in reducing wear. I've seen them fail to the point of taking out the block, and it's not pretty. Please don't insult our (and the factory's) intelligence.

We got 2 tractors with 20,000 combined hours and a third with unknown hours if used properly it’s a non issue. On my list of things to worry about in life it’s real low on the list.
