Both have Murphy switches, both have been running non stop for the past 60 hours. We check the oil and refuel twice a day. Run both of them about 1500 rpm while pumping, the 200 runs a 14" vertical shaft pump. The 7020's pump is 16". Them 301's are so efficient on fuel. Not bad for 40 year old tractors. We did shut both off tonight and will see what tomorrow brings.
Mississippi river is supposed to crest tomorrow at 3rd highest in history here. I'm ready for warm dry weather....... Leon B MO

Nice tractors! Will be praying the rain stops in MO. 301’s were the best engine AC ever made IMO.

I am curious where you are pumping that water? Is it going back in the Mississippi River on the other side of that levee? The other pump looks like it is at top of Levee?
Don't live next to a river so this is all foreign to me, but you are moving a bunch of water with pipes that size! I hope flooding has stopped. It won't quit raining here in Indiana.

We are pumping water from inside the levy to the creek on the other side, which runs into the Mississippi . When the river is normal the water simply runs out though a pipe. But when the river level is high any rain water has to be pumped out. Trying to keep the water off in case it ever stops raining long enough to plant. The 200 is running a lift pump, I don't recall where Dad found it, but is has vertical shaft that goes down through a casing to the water, pumps it up and out. Leon B MO

If you run across any used camelback pumps in the twelve inch size, please pm me. Thanks and hope that the skies clear up.

high water temp, low oil pressure needle hits the switches were they are set at and shuts it down

Murphy switches are a special oil pressure and temp gauge with limits that can be set that will automatically shut down the engine if the oil pressure is too low or the temp gets too high. Remember Murphy's law ? " if it can happen, it eventually will happen"

Yes,i know all about Mr Murphy,he sets up camp out here once in a while. thanks for your response. Next question is who sells them. I use my 200 on an 18 inch kelderman pump, and i always hate walking away and leaving it.

Most irrigation dealers should have Murphy gages on the shelf. Any place that sells stationary engines would probably have them. We have always used them on tractors and engines where you need safety units to shut down the machine for low water pressure, over heating, low oil pressure or level of oil, over heating motor.

The one on the 7020 I got online after searching Murphy Switch. I has both water and temp gauges, override switch and test switch in a nice metal box. Gauges are adjustable for different shutdown setting's. Here's a couple of pics. LeonB Mo

So....what method is used to actually shut it down? A mechanical device that closes fuel stop? How is that powered?

we have one on our 8550 and electric current holds a solenoid open. when a gauge falls below desired operating spec a contact is hit inside the gauge and it stops the current and the solenoid closes shutting off the fuel to injection pump. to start you push a button to bypass the shutdown until gauge reaches operating range.

I found one on ebay that looks just like yours for $259 plus shipping although it says that the fuel solenoid valve is not included. Looks like the Solenoid is about $110. Both look high quality and certainly cheaper than a ruined engine. I never knew these existed so thanks for the info.

Yes, you may have to add an electric shut off on your injection pump similar to the 80xx series or solenoids found on combine pumps. Leon B MO

Both of my 440's have murphy gauges in them, never could see need for that in them, but the factory put them in.
