Hello all, My D14 was due for new plugs and wires and just an overall tuneup. I bought a tune up kit that included Autolite plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor. I installed everything and noticed that the new cap jiggles slightly on factory distributor. I have never really paid any attention to the movement of the cap so I am not sure if this is normal? The old cap and new cap were identical looking and it clamped down tight, but I am noticing it moves around on the distributor slightly... Tractor starts right up and runs really good so I believe everything is timed correctly. Sorry for my lack of knowledge! Thanks Dave. The movement is very little but still something I noticed. I did a bit more research and it could possibly be due to the new plug wires not being hard wires, they are the flexible kind which would allow for more movement on the cap. The cap is clamped down tight and fits great. The last rotor and cap I replaced the rotor didn't want to seat all the way. I scraped the inside and tapped it down where it belonged. That was last spring. |

If the cap is locked down tight and is moving, something has to be pushing it - "Rotor hitting cap" sure makes sense. ------------- WC, CA, D14, WD45 |

IIRR, the cap has a slot stickin out that engages the female slot, in the bakelite points and condenser cover, and that has about a 3/8" slot, to be indexed properly. Check for chip outs, and proper seating, too! ------------- Source: Babylon Bee. Sponsored by BRAWNDO, its got what you need! |

Do you mean "it is moving"? Like moving when the engine is running? Or you can "move it" like wiggle the cap by hand? Only reason I ask is my brothers D-14 is the same way.
