I have always wanted to buy a new tractor since I was a kids and would love to buy a new Allis Chalmers but obviously that can’t happen. So tomorrow I get to pick up my brand new John Deere 5045e the smallest John Deere with a jd motor and smallest 2wd. Am very excited not only did I get I think of as a killer deal but be able to follow a tractor from new ( I would love to know where all my other tractors spent the lives and came from when new like my 1938 b and what that person did to be able to afford it).

Hope you have better luck with yours than the farm across the river from me has had with their JD 5055.I had to go over and unload hay for them because their 5055 just stopped and wouldn't move. This was the 2nd time. JD place had come out and Updated the computer and some other things stayed about 1 hr,bill was over $800 as the tractor had just run out of warranty. So then it did the same thing again and JD was going to charge them fro another service call, haven't heard the co$t on that one yet. They're  also built in
India.

Bah... only JD can service some of the systems on green tractors. They have proprietary computer programs for that. If I had my druthers I'd go with one of the red imports. Kioti comes to mind as one I've heard good things about.

I'll start by saying I'm not  a big Deere fan but give you an example of a tough little Deere.  I've volunteered at an Ag Museum for many years.  They have a 4610 with loader and a belly mower.  This thing gets rode hard and put away wet. It's 4WD Yanmar diesel with hydrostat.  Get's the oil and filters changed once a year.  The only weak point is the adjustable steering wheel.  Has a lot of plastic. I know there's no comparison with yours but it is a testimonial of that particular model.  Good luck with yours.  I have relatives who have been forced to the Green side strictly because they are the only service and parts available.

I have a neighbor who has several of those 5xxx series Deere's. And one 4xxx series JD green Yanmar. Everyone of his employees prefer the Yanmar. On the other hand. There's ALOT of those Deere's around. Must be something to it.

Congratulations, a new tractor! Can you disclose the paid price before any taxes?

Similar size to the Kubota M5660SU. The JD is about 500 pounds heavier, the front axle looks like an industrial tractor.

What is the model from New Holland about this weight and power?  Massey Ferguson?

Congrats there is nothing like a new tractor. I can still remember waiting in 2003 for the Kubota dealer to deliver our new L3830. We all sat outside waiting for the rollback to come up the drive. Please keep us updated on how it does. Last year at the farm show in Raleigh NC they were selling that tractor for $15500 I had to run away before I bought one. I think it’s a good deal for the money.

Hey, that is a nice looking tractor. I was always fond of the first 5045D's, before they changed the styling a couple years ago. Lots of horse people around here have those kind of tractors, so they must be easy to operate, as well as able to handle some abuse.

And...I'll help you get Shameless's crosshairs pointed away from you...I just bought another 8N a couple days ago (but he doesn't know it yet!)

My first 2 6080’s are awesome #3 is a hell child. I’ve spent more on repairs on it in the last 6 months than I have #1 in 20 years.

About 10 - 12 years ago, my oldest brother needed a tractor to replace the wore out POC  he had. He was looking at Orange Kubota, but ended up buying a Deere about that size.
It spent more time in the shop than on the farm the first year, with lots of little PIA things. All kinds of trouble with linkages from what I understand.
Once all the bugs were worked out, it has been a decent tractor for him. I think his son in law lays claim to it now, because he has horses and uses it to make and move hay, snow and manure.

I bought a 4320 cab and loader unit new in 2006, it now has 2600 hrs. on it.  It is a pre emissions tractor.  The front left wheel fell off within the first two hrs becuz the assembly robot forgot to put a washer on.   J D "fixed " it but that gear box had fillings in it a year later, so I insisted they replace the whole drop box which they did.  Other than that tractor has not had a single issue.

You will have many years of service from the new JD machine. Surprised you got 2 wheel drive?

 Chris

What's to say another Deere would be any better. When buying used tractors it's a coin toss.

I ALMOST got that Green Bug the other day, a slightly rough 6045 FWA with Self Leveling loader, less than 2500 hours, needed two new fronts but otherwise decent. $34900 kind of set me back on my heels!! I am more inclined for less than $20k budget wise!! May look into a CIHNH or actual NH next time I am nearer their operations.

Lonn,
My experience with the last 6080 had nothing to do with Allis quality absolutely zero. Previous owner did zero maintenance if he didn’t have to and the dealer should have scrapped her for parts instead selling it as a repairable tractor.   Fact is the newest Allis tractors are 34 years old still a few good ones but they are getting scare. My big horse is a Deere more will follow.   I couldn’t be to anti orange I bought two last year.

My dad bought his first brand new tractor early in 1970.  It's a Case 830 diesel, one of the last built.  At almost age 15 I argued for a new Allis-Chalmers but the A-C dealer was 15 miles away in the wrong direction according to dad.  He passed the Case / Massey Ferguson dealer and the International dealer on his way to work and the John Deere dealer was across the street from where Dad worked.  Since Dad worked full time with a lot of overtime his time available for the farm was very limited.  Convenience won out and we got a Case.  I was so excited to learn to drive the new Case.  I would take the owner's manual out to the shed and sit on the tractor reading the manual.  What a step up from the 2 WD's we had!  When Dad was ready to trade off the old Case I made him a cash offer.  The dealer said "Better take Dan's offer, Harold.  I can't give you that much for the old Case."  So now the Case resides with my A-C's.  And it will always be Dad's first new tractor.  (I still have the 2 WD's.)

Like I said, look at that front axle!
I would say no problem pulling a 3 bottom plow.

At $16,800, compared to a new pickup, the tractor is way cheaper.
Do that same comparison in the year 1973, the pickup is cheaper.

If it weighs 5050 pounds then the cost is just $3.32 per pound.
Compare that to name brand but dumb-hunk-of-iron implements (mower, plows, discs).
My Woods mower cost 4.30/pound a few years ago.

The next model, 5055 has a turbo charger. So a lot more stuff under the hood.
I would say good choice. Maybe save up a few bucks and upgrade to the telescoping draft links.

You should have brought a 4wd version. And a smaller 4wd unit would do more than larger 2wd. We have a couple green tractors, 4620 hydro & 5065M both fwa and love them. We started selling FWA-4wd compacts in 70's and people 1st hought were crazy. Until they tried one! Now around here 95% or more of big and small tractors are fwa.

I think Ryan did ok that’s why I looked at them and why I am buying 2wd tractors for hay and bush hogging. We have a fwa Kubota with industrial tires and a loader but after it everything’s two wheel drive- it’s all in what you are doing with the tractor

I stopped in at the local JD dealer. Took a look at the 5045E, it does have a turbo.
Also the dealer said they could match the 16,800 price. It has 14.9 tires. If they can match the price in $NY, they can do that price anywhere. But rebates or special deals expire at the end of the month.

$16,800 for a new tractor with warranty or 8-$10,000 for a 35 year old tractor with who knows how many hours. Hmmm

I got $13,000 in my latest 6080 without a loader seen sale results for 5085E mfwd and loader for $20,000

There are a whole lot of very good tractors around that can be bought for a whole lot less than 8-10,000$ that is for sure. For an example I bought an Oliver 1550 for $2000 have spent about $700 on it putting it in good working condition. So I'll have $13,000 left to
to spend on it over a new tractor.Plus I have a tractor I like better from the get go.And no one really has a 'new' tractor once its bought home its a used tractor. All in what a person wants really ''new" doesn't do a thing for me.
