Hi all, new to the forum and to tractors in general. Just bought an AC 416 with a, I believe is a 48” mower deck and an un-used plow.

I know absolutely nothing about these things. This one, the guy started taking it apart, to include the wiring. It has no carb, no throttle control, no coil, no battery, no fuel lines but have the tank with no straps. I can’t figure out if I can actually hook up the mower deck... not sure if I can get it running or not and if I do, can I get all the stuff working so I can actually mow my grass.

I am good at working on things and actually getting good results but feel i am over my head a little. Some parts ID and explanations would be great. I took a bunch of pictures and can upload if any can help. As I said, its a basket case and I may sell it. I don’t know yet...

Most of the parts are easily found online, but a cheap parts tractor may be a good option. The deck attaches to the back of the front axle and to a lift rod or cable at the rear. The belt is driven by a PTO pulley under the left side fender area.

Upload some pics so guys here can see what you have and what your missing.

I ran one of those for years, the original motor was a 16hp Kohler, but on mine I took a 16hp briggs stratton engine from an old pressure washer and made it work instead. My old Kohler was worn out and swapping in the BS engine was a zero cost option for me.
I ran that thing for 20 years pushing snow and plowing my garden. I finally sold it when I stumbled on a minty clean 916H.

I am trying to upload the pictures but the file sizes are to big for the site. I will work on it. I appreciate the information you provided.

The 416 should have an electric clutch on the front shaft of engine to run the mower deck. The mule drive and pulleys need to be present as well.

Are the mule drives the two pulleys right behind the front bumper, if so, those are present.  Thanks for the input

yes, they rotate the belt from engine pulley to the center deck pulley, On the 400 series the electric clutch engages the deck(or other front mount implement.composter snowblower. etc) and on the 300 it is manually engaged by a lever.

The pulley on the front of the engine seems to free spin, so the electrical engagement makes sense.  I really wish they hadn't taken/cut all the wiring...  Thank you.

Can you tell by the picture if I am missing anything with the exception of the obvious carburetor, coil and of course the battery.

There are some old belts hanging on the steering column, I assume those are for the mower deck.  Also, that metal H shaped attachment that wasn't attached to anything and I have sitting on the garage floor by itself, what is that for and how do you hook it up?

looks pretty complete, not sure what the black bracket/hitch is for. Not needed for mowing deck. the wiring doesn't look too hacked or missing, get a carb. coil, battery and some sort of muffler if you have spark and see if you can get it running.
