couple months ago I bought a BIG bag of sweet onions. i'm down to 2 in the bag, and they is growing shoots, about 7-8 inches tall right now. if'n I would plant them, what would happen? would they grow another bigger onion? I never had onions grow in the house before.

They will go to seed the second year.

Lots of seeds.
I'm starting onions from seeds I gathered a few years ago.

We put them  in a pot on the window sill and when they are big enough cut the tops off and use them as green onions  . Onion seed is cheep would not try to grow them for seed.  Randy

Been wondering the same thing.   When the Red Candy grown from plants last year went soft and began to sprout they went to the compost pile. Where they took off growing. Just last week wife said she needed some onion for a meat loaf and all she froze were used up. I went to the compost pile where those Red Candy Sprouts had foot long green tops. Seems like every one old bulb made new roots with a cluster of nice pretty RED green onions for cutting up and mixing in her meatloaf. Ate a few raw but they were not what I would call SWEET. Hot as a Firecracker.

thanks! guess i'll just cut the tops off and mince them for adding into other stuff! the bulbs are not soft...yet. I did use one last night when I cut it up and grilled it.
