So I bought a 5100 grain drill last spring to plant my oats and beans. I love The thing to death except it has no guidance. No markers what so ever. The previous owner did install a couple chains in the front that you're suppose to use. That really sucks to keep looking back all the time. My thought was to add a couple markers.
Does anyone have markers on their drill? This is only 12 foot.

Put the chains on a bar on the front of your tractor and have chain just touching the ground. Make it so can make it narrow for road transport like the first 600 no till planters used in the 70s

I used the markers from an old international planter If I was to do it over I. Would set the light bar up to switch tractors for spraying to planter

I have seen a few with markers, though not very common in my area. We used to pull a 21 hole 5100 with an ih 656 gas. We used a pipe on the front of the weight bracket with a chain hanging from each end that would lay in the drills tire track from the previous pass. Worked great with the flat smooth tires that came on the drill new.

Buy a GPS and use it on every thing, or I will sell you a set of hydraulic markers off my 20 ft JD drill. MACK

Once you get used to how far away to drive from the previous row you just planted, you shouldn't need to look back. We (and most of our neighbours) have the same drill and none use a marker with 12 feet.
20 - 24 feet is when to use a marker.
