Probably between 1942 and 1945? It should have a bell housing with a starter hole, but just have a delete plug in the hole.

I didn't think there was a crank start only year for the C. I think the Starter was an option when they started the C. Thinking doesn't make it so though.
Dads 41 C had a starter and foot brakes. He bought it used in 1944 at an auction. He had to buy a pitch fork and the tractor was throwed in. I doubt it had been modified.

I don't know what year my dad had,but the picture I have seen of it it has no lites or starter. He traded it for a new 1948 C with starter and lites. That would be a year after he bought me. I stll have the 1948 C. The early one also had hand brakes. Thanks Gary

The very early hand brake C's, should have had the starter as an option. A few, just didn't think it was needed.

My 43 C had no starter no generator no battery box. and no Pto or hydraulics. The ring gear had a starter gear on it the casting hole just a tin plug. There ware holes in the block for a gemmer actor mount. The pto had just a block off plate. I bought a rear half of a c out of a tree row to get the pto hydraulics and rock shaft.i still have the delet plate laying around somewhere

For what it's worth I see in Terry Dean's "Allis Chalmers Data Book" that it states- MODEL C STANDARD FEATURES 6-volt electric starter and lights
Suppose some farmers opted out.

I used to have C serial #30 and it had a starter. I would say except for war years it was always available.
