Hey all, I have a ‘63 allis chalmers d12 series II. Noticed that oil is leaking out of where one of the spark plugs is. What does this mean? What part(s) do I need to fix it? Also, I am looking to buy an engine oil dipstick for the same tractor but cannot find one anywhere. Know where I can get one? Thanks. |

| late D14 all D15 use the same one 70231188 countryside tractor in PA has used ones 717-923-0421 or any other used parts place |

| check head gasket real good and value cover oil would not leak out of spark plug clean real good then run tractor and watch to see where it leaks |

Bad valve guide might be leakin into the cyl, and being forced out at malformed SP threads is a possibility. Take the SP out, and see if it is oil fouled, and condition of threads. Most likely VC gasket, though...

| Had a couple people thought they had a head gasket because of dirt collecting in wet oil around two spark plugs. Turned out to be a valve cover gasket. No dirt above the plugs. You wipe your thumb above the spark plugs and your thumb would have oil on it. |

I think the valve cover gasket would be the most likely problem. My dad's first new car a 1954 Ford with an overhead valve inline 6 leaked oil down the back of the block. The dealer replaced the gasket but that didn't cure the leak. My dad attacked the casting with a flat file where the factory hadn't flattened a rise in the head casting, and it didn't leak for the next 100,000 miles. That was an engine where the valves were supposed to be set every oil change and set while the engine was idling. So it cold be the gasket or a roughness on the head or the valve cover above the spark plug. Gerald J. |
