7010-20-30-40 tractors are essentially 100% the same from the flywheel thru the hole in the drawbar. They all have 2-pinion differentials. 7045-50-60's are essentially all the same. They all have 4-pinion differentials. The 7080 has different final drives but the rest of the driveline is the same as 7045 thru 7060.  There are small differences from maroon (older) to black (newer)but this is pretty much what they were.

They were both colors and are a completely different tractor than all of the others. Maroon 7000's had a dry foot clutch and a shifter on the floor. Black 7000's had a "wet" foot clutch and a shifter to the right. No real difference in reliability as far as I'm concerned.

Early maroon 7000 had a poor/faulty turbo. (forgot the make?)

Later models had a better Air Research.

Uncle has a maroon 7000 it’s done a fair amount of work over the years . Pulled the same size tillage tools as the neighbors 4440’s did. Tractor certainly doesn’t owe him anything.   I think the wet clutch from a black belly would have benefited him over the years.

Maroon vs Black denotes AC’s production years.
Maroon is 1973-77’ .(7030,7040,7050 are only maroon.)
Black is 1977-1981’.(7010,7020,7045 are only black.)

Exceptions are as follows;

AC 7000 is mostly maroon 75’-79’ with a portion of 1978s serial 8000-8962 being black.
AC 7060 & 7080 have both maroon & black years. Maroon 74-77’ & Black 78-81’.
AC 7580 is maroon 76-78’ & Black 78’-81.

the only difference is age , the maroon power shifts had some bad clutch pistons in the 7040-7060 -all these will have been replaced by now.  The older seals get, the more prone to leakage.  The 7000's have no issues other than the early black trannys had too many degrees of lock in in the shift collars - there was a bulletin to remedy this - which made them hard to come out of gear.  Being based on the 190-200 the 7000 was pretty much debugged by the time it came along.  Some like the durability of the wet clutch, others like the shiftability of the early dry clutch.  The heavy duty front end (7040) on the 7000 dramatically increased the ride comfort with 10.00 or 11.00 -16's.

You might be thinking of "Rayjay" (spelling?). The Harvey Engine plant started to use them on some applications in the 70's. They had a higher failure rate (oil seal leaks) than the Airesearch units. These failures were on engines that hadn't even finished their dyno test runs.

Here’s a Sept 2016 discussion about the maroon belly color. I enjoyed reading about the AC President’s choice concerning it.
