So I drained the tranny/pto to replace the gear oil with universal tractor fluid. After discovering my hydraulics stopped working 2nd time I tried them.
From the fill plug oil looked clean but when I drained it, it was white milky soup.
I let it drain over night, now my plan is to flush with diesel, drain it and refill with the Walmart fluid.
Question
Should I engage the pto or hydraulic during diesel flush?
And
Should I drain and refill it again even after flush?

Oh yeah one more thing
Is 303 tractor fluid tractor supply same as Walmart fluid?
Walmart $25 for 2 gal
Tractor supply $27 for 5 gal

Make sure you remove all 3 drain plugs.

Ok...I've never been in a B/C transmission before, so I could be way off here, but isn't there a "cup" inside that catches oil to lubricate a countershaft? Seems I've heard this "cup" eventually fills with sludge/grime as well and can cause problems. I'm wondering if a diesel flush would do any good for that?

I've done a diesel flush on my Ford 8N, with really good results. I ran the PTO for a bit, and ran the 3pt up and down a couple times. I wouldn't want to run it that way for very long, but my thought process was that it should help some.

The flush helps if there's light sludge, but any heavy accumulations will need to be scraped out manually.

I'm not sure but I think that TSC 303 fluid doesn't say Allis 821 ? I do remember that I didn't buy it for my D 15 . Thanks

Seems like I should use the pto and hydraulic a lil to get all the white film out.
Just didn’t know if the diesel would mess anything up?
Also wondering about getting all the diesel out?

Do you have cylinders in the system? they would have the dirty oil too

Grant, the cheaper stuff from Tractor Supply is fine........ Many think that diesel is a contaminant, just like the water ( milky) in the gear lube... I would drain overnight and then put the Tractor Supply oil in the system.. Run it an hour or a week depending on how it works. Run the cylinder in and out 20- 30 times.. It will still be milky, but should start operating better.. Sometime ( day or week) drain in out again and refill a second time... After it warms up, you will still see some "milky".. but not much.. you will see that anytime you have .1% water or more in the system... a slight bit wont hurt you right now .... couple of changes should get you in decent shape.

I do have the small cylinder on the rear. It worked the week I bought it then last week it didn’t. Hopefully this fluid change does it.

I changed the trans fluid in my B when I got a little over a year agi and once since then....but I haven't even tried the hydraulics yet. My Dad had it for 25 years before that and never used them. It's been a mowing machine only, but I would like to get a grader blade for it, so I guess it's time to try it.

Grantjp, Delighted to hear that my favorite is alive and well. As we all know the hydraulics on the B are almost bulletproof. Thinking back I really do not recall any problem we had with the hydraulics in a B.

Look forward to seeing pictures and hearing progress reports.
