Last year or so,,I been buyin cars , trks, rider mowers ETC to repair and resale. So far I've managed to make a little money to help pay off all these humongous health care bills some stranger keeps sending me,,,,  . Anyway,,most times the vehicle I buy will motivate under their own power,,but some do not run for whatever reason and require a trailer of some sort. I now use my 18' car hauler,, but for one person it is a bi*** to load and unload the vehicles. I been lookin at a Tow Dolly to make it easier. Bout half and half of them use a center PIN to allow the bed to swivel when making a turn but that "swivel" would prolly be a hindrance when having to back the vehicle/tow Dolly up to the unloading spot. Some of those tow dollys do NOT have a swivel pin. Any of Ya'll gots one of them and what are the do's and don'ts,,?? Several years ago, I had to rent one from U-Haul to go get my son's car in Las Cruces, bout 3 1/2 hours drive and OVER the mountain and I don't remember it being the swivel type bed and don't remember it being a problem cause it wasn't a swivel,,,??? Any help,,??

Oh yes I can help.👍👍👍 Gather some green, enough to buy a good tow dolly and go to our second favorite store, harbor fright or even the favorite with that top heavy girl. Buy a good heavy duty 12 volt winch to mount on your trailer. Make up a snatch block to go wit it. No need to hurry up and thank me😆 I’ve got a few spare minutes this mornin.👍👍👍 |

| Make sure that wench has a high speed mode. Ya never know when ya might need to load a Jeep er such and gits out quick. |

I've used both, prefer the trailer. 1) tow dollys make a LOT of noise banging down the highway empty,has to be hard on them bouncing that bad... 2) tow dollys are 'fun' to backup, think B train but a really,really short front trailer. 3) up here NO license plate needed for t-dolly. 4) with a real winch, it's easy to get up on a trailer 5) no need to pull driveshaft with carhauler trailer guy next door hasn't used his t-dolly in years. gets tilt&load guy for $110, NO hassles and saves a LOT of time. each have pros and cons... just some things I know. X2. With the 12,000 lb winch you won't even need a snatch block for pulling power but just to align the vehicle on the trailer if you can't back straight in. I have a 6,000 lb on my utility trailer and it has plenty of power. I wouldn't even consider a tow dolly. Now with some of those jeeps you might need to "git 'n' go but just get the repo man to grab it for you. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

Hey Dusty,,,,,, that right there is an interesting idea!! Instead of having the center pin for a swivel,,let the tires float with a tie rod,,,?? I'm not too sure bout the tow dollys having to swivel anyway,,,, The only'ist tow dolly I ever used was a UHaul one and did have the center pin but it was froze up solid,,!! After beating on it trying to break it loose,,the UHaul guy told me,,"Chit,,you don't need the tires to swivel anyway",,,Believe it or else. I had to make several turns before I got the car home and don't remember any issues,,,Ya know how thet dang Bud Lite is,,,,

If the tow dolly doesn't have a swivel or steerable tires, your gonna be eating up tires dragging it around corners. Buy a winch! You can buy a good sized winch from Harbor Freight for around $300 on sale. You'll spend more than that for a decent used tow dolly. ------------- Looking at the past to see the future. | It’s a long way from New Mexico to Nebraska and then home whoops I mean Arkansas towing an old Jeep with old tires on a tow dolly. You could load the trailer with premium goat head seed to haul to Nebraska to offset cost of the extra high speed gas hogging miles to Arkansas. |

You better be 100% SURE the motorhome hitch is a FRAME mounted one, rated in excess of whatever you're hauling AND that the motorhome has NEW,100% good brakes !! I've never seen a towdolly with brakes wherase every tandem axle 'car hauler' DOES have brakes. just something else to consider... Hey Thad,,,,,"IF" the jeep you're thinkin on is the same one I'm lookin at on Google Earth,,,,thet sob gots what looks like brand new Ta'ars on all corners,,,,,so no worries there  ,,,,, I'll bet it'll pull real good as fast as I can get thet red Ford to go on the get-a-way,,,,, Hey Tom,,,I have been lookin and doin a lot of readin and lookin and you DO HAVE to have either have a center pin for the bed to swivel or some of the better dollys have a tie rod from wheel to wheel that has to be pinned when no vehicle is being towed. Of coarse,,,the more ammenities you want like trailer brakes are nice but do drive up the price. Let us know what you do buy,,,,

| JB, that's already been done, motor home came from factory with a set up to pull race cars. It has the trailer brake controller set up in it from the factory. Last Saturday I told the car dealer to get me a new Chevy or Dodge pickup, Brad knows what I want. Dont care which one, as long as its here before end of March. I might drive it to Ol Shameless place to look at 1 he's got. Depends on how much white crap he sends my way. Might head for Kansas City and pick up a new HD unit. I sorta like specks on some of the units the truck rental places have. |
