Hey you orange tractor people where's the best and cheapest place to gather up a complete engine overhaul kit for the 125 B ------------- '40 AC B - My Pappy always told me "Use your head for something other than a tack hammer!" I did. It makes a great 16 pound sledge hammer. |

The first thing you will need to know is what parts is the little B going to need to rebuild then look for the right kit for the job. I go with Tony's Tractors not because he's the cheapest but if I have a need for something more to do the job Tony is just one phone call away to get the parts new or used plus he is a supporter of this site. Tony like a lot of the venders on here are good help from the first part you ordered in tell you have the old tractor up and running again. If the "kit" is ordered from E bay some of (not all of) them so-called venders are gone and them good-luck finding them if the kit is not what you needed. "Best" would be from one of the vendors on this site. Really isn't everyone selling the same kit these days? I have a NOS kit, sleeves,pistons,rings but no bearings.In the original Allis Chalmers box. |

I like saving money almost as much as Joe and Shameless, but I believe quality engine parts are important and worth the extra $$$. I've heard of some guys buying cheap engine kits, and the pistons were made of inferior metal. The engine would start and run fine, but when shut off, the pistons expanded from the heat, thus locking up the motor until it cooled down and they shrunk back to normal size. Glad to hear you got a rebuilt engine. I think overhauling is pretty fun, but doing a quick swap is also a nice route to go sometimes!

I offer one kind of service in the shop "RIGHT" and it might not be fast or cheap, I try to be good and think is always better. I have tried the fast and the cheap and always cost's me the money in the long run. | Be cautious wherever you buy your parts, I just did brakes on my D17 IV, and ordered all parts from one of the vendors on this site, the tractor is 100 miles away, so the first weekend I was free I headed up there to put everything together, brake pins were not going in the housings, period. Upon measuring everything up, they were on the plus side of being .001" larger than the originals, weekend one shot, took em back home and told my centerless grinder operator at the shop to take em down to match the OEM pins I had removed and would need them by the end of the week, Friday afternoon, he comes in the office, tosses the pins on the desk and says there you go, but you won't be happy, the new ones aren't hardened like the old ones. He was right, they were dead soft, weekend two shot, Monday afternoon, I went to the AGCO dealer, he had the pins on the shelf in AGCO baggies, the right size, case hardened, and $2.00 cheaper than the aftermarket ones. Buyer beware, cheaper might just be better at times. |

Ask your vendor lots of questions. See if they really know what they sell. Then ask here to see of they are as knowledgable as they claim. IT's worth your time to research. I certainly do not have the cheapest "kit". But I will place my quality against anyone out there. And I've rebuilt many engines that are both daily workers and pullers. I've learned a few lessons the hard way, and that's why I sell what I sell.
