If anyone is looking for one, there is a nice Gleaner S67 at the Ritchie bros Saskatoon sale on Dec 6 with 1400 hrs on the engine.  Sometimes these sell cheap in western Canada so if anyone is needing one (who isn't?) pay attention to this one.   These combines need to go to a good home.    Unfortunately my budget doesn't get one this nice.     There was a 400 hr S77 sell for 192000 Cdn a few years ago in this area.   The buyer got a good deal.

I stopped by the Richie Bros auction on Saturday to check out what they had for the Dec 5 auction here in Colorado.  Lots of stuff, but when I went in to register, the nice young lady at the desk showed me the fees they charge to buyers, first 10% for items under $5,000 down to $1,290 for items $33,500 or more.  Then there is the city/state sales tax of 4.9%, which combined brings it over .15%.  Don't know if it's the same in Canada but that is a pretty hefty bite on say something just under 5 grand.  Over $5,000, the fee is 3.85%, but still that's over 9% on a purchase, the way I figure it.  Probably won't be bidding on anything...

Do watch for the buyer fees at these auctions.  As far as I know is no sales tax in Saskatchewan on farm equipment so that should not be a problem.

There isn't sales tax on Farm machinery here either but almost everything Richie Bros sells here is construction and transportation equipment and there is tax on it.  Plus there is that buyers fee on everything.
As for the MJ, I was just reading that the tax has brought in a billion bucks so far but if our legislators would have had the dope taxed by the ounce instead of dollar, we would be better off as the price on MJ is dropping but the # of pounds sold is increasing.  California, for once, got it right and charges by the pound.

any sale that has a buyers premium, I don't spend much at those sales. others are starting to catch on to that too now. the people selling their stuff think they will get a price that other auctions or sales get, and in reality they won't usually. then they get mad

there was a local sale here one day, a business was selling out. there was a lot of inventory on the auction. the owner chose to do the buyers premium type sale as then he wouldn't have to pay the auctioneers a commission. the sale was going on and people were only paying pennies on the dollar for the inventory items. this torked the owner and after an hour or so he called the auction, shooed everyone off the property and fired the auctioneers! then he bad mouthed the auctioneers! then he wanted to hire another auctioneer company to take care of the rest of his inventory and real estate, no auction company nor real estate company would take him as a client. far as I know everything is still sitting where it was when he cancelled the auction a year ago!
