All the lamps must be replaced with 12 volt lamps like the battery. The coil needs to be 12 volts or have a resistor added to the primary circuit with the resistor resistance the same as that of the 6 volt coil. Also the coil primary connections have to the swapped because the alternator is going to be negative ground and the original 6 volt system is probably positive ground. If the coil gets changed, the condenser needs to changed to match the coil. 30 amps should be a plenty big alternator unless you want the battery fully charged in ten minutes after each start. If there is an ammeter it needs to have a full scale at least as high a rating as the alternator. And its connections need to be swapped because of the polarity change. DB electrical sells a one wire mini alternator works great and don’t need a coil keep the magneta and just swap your pos and neg battery cables and change bulbs. Those have enough amps to keep the battery charged have built in resistors so don’t have to worry about overcharging and small enough you can’t really see them and won’t have to cut your hood |

A small Denso alternator would be your best bet. I use to service a genset that had a Kubota diesel engine and small alternator. I don't know if a Kubota tractor would use the small alternator or not. A old small Japanese car would. Visit your local junk yard. As for what size: Even the smallest one available would be enough. The large 10SI or CS130 types look too big on a small engine if you ask me. |

I've put 4 or 5 CS130s on tractors, all free from scrapped cars, zero problems. I swap over the pulley from the genny, use an air gun to 'burp' off the nuts. The Alternanor on my Kubota is small but it's STAYING on Lil TOOT unless you've got a BIG fat wallet,  Whatever alternator you get, grab the connector ! Aftermarket guys charge large for 5" of wire and a plug !!
