Not a mechanic - Trying to time fuel pump on a 190XT. There are no markings on either the pump or case (tractor side) to line up with. I matched up the internal pump strikes to each other, turned crank 2 times on the dot and strikes were still lines up perfectly. Starts right up but revs way up and doesn't come down, but haven't left it running more than 5 seconds before I shut it off in fear of blowing something.
Where can it be off?

Thanks

Do you have the throttle hooked up, or maybe internal pump problem. Why was the pump off?
Sounds like the timeing is close enough if it will start

There are degree marks on front crank pully and pointer on front cover. Tell us more about work been done on pump. MACK

Were we having issues where tractor started bogging down under a load after a few rounds with the plow. Would shut it down, wait a few minutes and it would run fine for about 10 minutes and then start bogging down again. Thinking it could be the pump, we swapped with another XT pump. A nearby mechanic didn't think it was a pump issue to begin with, but he's too busy to come out with harvest going on. Couldn't even get it running with the other pump, so I put old pump back on and now I can't find the perfect timing.

There are no degree marks on this pump or tractor. The XT we took the other pump off had them both on the pump and tractor. Throttle is hooked up, and I believe it is just the same as it was before because I didn't have to adjust it any. I will double check it.

First time I've ever worked on the injector pump. Pretty much going by my dad's directions, but his health prohibits him from coming outside to look at it.

Weight retainer has come apart in pump, and pieces are plugging return in pump.
Reason it Reaves up is because throttle was not tied wide open before removing pump and part of governor is out of fork. Time for a pump rebuild.    MACK

As Mack stated above. The first problem was indeed your pump flex ring deteriorating and it's pieces plugging the return cause it to lose power and eventually die. The DB pump is known for this, and if your local mechanic didn't think that is the case, he doesn't fair well in my opinion. But what do I know lol! Now, swapping pumps can be done but timing has to be kept in check, and when removing these pumps from the shaft, and re-installing them, the throttle needs to be wired open to hold all the weights in position. You likely have had a weight or two flip out of position, so now the governor is inoperable. When I rebuild one of these pumps I offer guidance on how to remove and re-install if someone hasn't done it before. Good luck!

Experience is the best teacher if you can take the pain.Agree the throttle not tied open has bit you. Bet you'll never do that again! Whatever you work on,if you haven't been taught what to do,your best friend is a factory service manual. Read and follow step by step and avoid the pit falls.
