Hi all. This summer my belt started to slip. This tractor has ac. But I never start it with anything like that or accessories on. It was to the point where you would tighten it and baling on hot day with all that stuff on it would slip so I figured time for new belt. Thought it was good, it seems to always want to slip when started, which is when the alternator is being excited or however you say that. The other day after going awhile I didn't have anything on and it almost sounded like it was squawking a little, tighten belt again. Only thing we've noticed is water pump has small amount of movement, doesn't seem bad but going to try a new pump. And the other thing have noticed is alt is just a little misaligned but why all the sudden. Im just asking see if anybody ever run into this and found something that could help. Thanks for reading |

| What do the pulleys look like? Wear on them can shorten belt life. If you are running a smooth belt perhaps changing to a notched type will gain some life. Those will grip a bit tighter on small diameter pulleys. |

Look closely at the pulleys. The grooves should have straight side walls. The V belt works by the centers of the sides bellying out when the belt is bent around a pulley. That tends to wear the center of the groove walls, and when worn enough a new belt will slip. Gerald J. |

Inspect the pulleys for cracks. Only takes one pulley out of the bunch to start making the belt slip. As you tighten the belt, you spread the cracked pulley in turn making the belt slip. We replaced the alternator on one of ours 6080 with local alternator shop and couldn't keep belt tight 3 belts later noticed after just a short time the belt was touching the bottom of the alternator pulley took alternator back to shop the groove was just a little wider new pully new belt no more prob now we have them switch the old pulley to all alternator's ------------- You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul |

| I had a similar problem, replaced the alternator belt with a new factory belt. Couldn't get the belt tight enough, ran out of travel. Finally just ordered a new belt that was an inch shorter. More than likely the alternator pulley is the problem, but for now at least I can keep the belt tight. |

The alt pulley was definitely wore. Our alt shop got new one, haven't picked it up yet. Just woundering if anybody has pic of what the original pulley looks like. Thanks |

I just went through this with dad's 6080. Put on a new agco belt and had the alternator rebuilt at the local shop. Pulley was worn pretty badly, shop had one that works, even the right size. I will get you a pic or two of the old pulley. My belt was really worn. |

Here's some pics of the pulley that came off Dad's 6080. You can see the shiny on the bottom of the grove. The belt was really worn. Pulley was worn pretty good too. I'm sure both were original equipment.

| Ok a little update, after last post put new pulley on alternator but that chewed belt up to, but noticed the belt alignment had been getting worse during all this time, by this time the water pump pulley was way outa wake. Winter hit so we just got back into it. Put new water pump on it and it looks much better and as of a few hours of running it seems ok. |

The pump we took off had a hycapacity sticker on it. Is that housing good to rebuild, have a rebuild kit. Thanks |

Our 6060 has duel pullys so you can use 2 belts. Ours only has one but I figured when I replaced it I'd put on 2. Bill

| If that's the water pump pulley something is bad wrong the bottom of the Grove should not be shiney that tells me belts whore out pulley is whore out belt just not big enough as long as it's touching the bottom it will slip .... sorry Mike didn't realize that was a picture of another Mike's pulley lol |
