Looking for a straight cut head for my L3 combine. Wreckers say they have one from a M. (20 ft) Does it fit? I realize 20 ft width is fine. I'm wondering about the actual hooking up? Is there any differences? |

| Yep, those were called L/M heads, will fit both. |

Check the serial number plate. If it just says M, its an early unit with the hooks welded solid for the M hookup, even though the slots are there for the L hook position. Some fabbing will basically convert it to L/M If it says L/M, it will fit. If its off a straight L or M and is going on a 2 or 3 series, you will need to notch the upright for feeder beater drive clearance. ------------- Gleaner: the properly engineered and built combine. If you need parts for your Gleaner, we are parting out A's through L2's, so we may be able to help. |

The header is about 3+ hours away so I asked for some pics. This was before I read your post Gm Guy. I could phone again to verify that it is a straight M. But we're supposed to get snow...and might not combine at all if the weather doesn't improve. So the swather is going out!  I've noticed it has mechanical drive for the reel. And my L3 has variable hydraulic drive. I'm guessing this is a straight M? |

Definitely off an M with the Flighting extensions and the stripper plate extensions. Cannot tell if its straight m or L/M without seeing SN plate. Drivelines are correct. Not a 2 or 3 series, definitely a first generation, so the upright will need trimmed. way less trimming on a L2/3 application than M2/3. Overall looks like a decent enough head. If you have a grain spec machine, you may be missing the variable speed valve in the stack that was used for this style reel, as well as the variable speed feederhouse on the corn/soybean spec machines.
