This is my first post so hopefully I’m doing it right, not technically savvy. I’ll tell a little background about me. I’m from south jersey and have two hd9b dozers. One restored years ago and one I use around the farm.
Yesterday I was running one of them and I was getting a “clicking” “metal on metal sound” from the front right idler. Doesn’t happen all the time and everything looks true. It does stop the idler sometimes. The manual says there’s a bearing in there and it has been greased. Does anyone know where I can get those bearings/races. Any info or tips on repair will be appreciated!

taking it apart you could likely get #s from the bearings.  if you had a parts book sometimes the numbers will cross.  probably easiest to find another idler but you never really know what your getting when it comes to salvage.  either way it wont be an easy fix.  you will have to break the track and remove the idler to either work on it or replace it

What would a nonrebuildable idler look like, worn down shaft? And how much for seals and 2 bearings?

when you pull the shaft out you will probably see wear on the shaft. look inside and you will see brass bushings. if those bushings has worn out and into the case then you will either need a new case or perhaps a machine shop could fix it. I suspect your shaft and the bushings are wore. you can have a little play in your front idler but if its to much it will try to throw a track. good machine shop can rebuild it for you if needed. just going on past experience with other dozers. not familiar with yours.
