He,,,,He,,,,,he's gonna be so proud of me on this one,,,,!!!!!! cause they ain't nuttin "Ford" bout this one,,bless his heart. Ya see, my favorite Uncle brought over his Big Craftsman rider mower, cause it wouldn't start or go into gear,,,Before I had a chance to beg off,,,him and his son had thet big mother unloaded and pushin it to the carport. He tells me,," there ain't no hurry cause, cause, summer is almost over, Ya know?? I told him, if that's the case,,just load it back up and bring it back next march when I ain't got nuttin to do,,,, Anyway, ole sucker Joe checked it out and find the freakin starter is bad,,,after closer look,,I realize it is the starter "I" installed on it last year bout this time,,,coincedence,,??? I checked my files and see where I ordered a "new" starter from a company on Ebay last year,,,(now, hold on tight here,) EXACTLY 7 days before the one year warrantee was fixin to expire,,,,,,yes,,,yes,,!!! Well,,on a whim,,I contact the vendor and ask bout their warrantee,,and,,,and,,he says,," You in luck, you sob,,,you got 7 days left on the one year warrantee" Now,,Guys,,, the truth of the matter is,, that ain't what he really said cause they'll kick me plumb off here if I repeat what he did say,,,,, None the less,,he did send me a brand new starter after a nice discussion, tho. Chit,,almost got off my real story, anyway got the start issue fixed good and found one of the axles had a missing keyway,,figured I would deliver to him as I had not been out south of town in a long time and now glad I did. when it come time to palaver on labor charges,,,,I noticed a nice lookin trk that looked to have been parked some time by his house. I asked what the deal was and his son asks me if I am interested in it. It is a 1998 Nissan Frontier Sport, 5 speed, 4X4 with 5 almost brand new tires on it. Body and paint are nice and interior is good too. He tells me engine is 2.4 4 cylinder that has a Knock that comes and goes is why he stopped it. Trk only gots 125,000 miles and always had regular service. He tells me dealer told him that was inherrent problem with the 2.4 engine and new engine would be $3450 installed,,so he parked it and bought a new Toyota trk. Whew,,,!! Has anybody here had these same issue with the 2.4 Nissan 4 cylinder and what did Ya'll do ,?? ( hope I didn't put anybody to sleep) The rest of the story is,,,He offered the trk to me at a really, really, really, nice price as he says I'm always helping his Daddy. Now,,,ain't that nice,,???

You're thinking...…? So many responses to that (like for example, "there is a first time fior everything"), but I'll keep my responses to myself so that I don't get 10 feet of snow this winter. Darrel

Nissan 2.4 ......... Problem DescriptionA whining or buzzing type noise may develop from the timing chain area caused by excess slack in the secondary timing chains. Nissan has issued a service bulletin (NTB09-128) regarding this issue. Replacement of both secondary timing chains and their tensioner shoes will be necessary to repair this concern. As part of this repair, the engine oil and filter should also be replaced.

Hey Steve,,,YEP,,thas exactly what happened to this engine,,,,my cousin had told me it had a sporadic "knock" but,,,??? I pulled the valve cover today and everything upstairs was ok,,,The upper chain looked perfect with minimal slack on either side. Had to remove the top front cover to get a look at the bottom chain ,,and you guessed it,,,the tensioner piston had popped out of its holder and the tensioner spring was just hanging there,,,can't see the little piston,,tho,,prolly in the oil pan. Sure hoping this is a non-interference engine,,,,,, engine is not locked so maybe,,, Gonna pull the harmonic balancer,, bottom front cover, plus the oil pan and have a better look see,,,fingers crossed here,,,,,

OK,,got the bottom chain cover off ,,,thas a BFJ ,,I'll tell you for sure,,,!!! The Btm chain tensioner was all wiped out and most of the shoe plumb gone, same for the static one. CHIT,,,,BUT,,,,,the engine is not locked up so fingers crossed on this one so far. I can roll engine with wrench on crank snout and can't feel pistons hittin any valves. Timing chain is not turning either cam as it is all loose in btm of pan,,,,This is gonna be a bit** to "seal" the front cover as the very btm has to slip under the front of oil pan whils sealing on front of block and cylinder head,,,, For the other shade tree'ers,,,what is the best silicone to use on this cover,,,as it has 4 (four) sealing surfaces and you only got one shot at gettin it right,,,,,,
