In the past when I've posted pics of Allis cotton strippers, I get quite a few questions about how cotton is grown/harvested. I enjoy these questions, but I recently found this document explaining the process in much more detail than I can. The document also has some neat photos.
Page 1 and 2 shows photos of a machine from the '60s, and while I'm not sure, it seems to me like a Ben Pearson cotton stripper. From what I've heard, Ben Pearson worked with Allis early on, then later was one of their competitors. The stripper in this publication bears striking resemblance to an Allis stripper in the design of the header and feeder house. Only thing...the Ben Pearson has a much wider feeder house, which was great. The Allis used a much narrower feeder house (something like 16" wide) which was a big engineering blunder on the 880, which were 4-row only machines, which really needed a wider throat.
Anyways...history aside...here's the article. It's pretty in-depth on the cotton harvesting process.
