What happened to Hilltop Tractor Salvage located North of Lamar, Mo? I called down yesterday and the guy said they were closed and no longer selling parts.

As you know the owner passed away nearly 3 years ago...None of the kids wanted to mess with it as they are all close to retirement age..All the picked over stuff in the SE corner was scrapped (around 300 semi loads) earlier this year by an outfit from Council Bluffs,Iowa....Nothing was scrapped on the west side..

The remaining stuff was recently sold to an outfit from Sikeston,MO so the place is now closed....They are hauling some of the tractors-etc down to Sikeston and scrapping the rest....Lots of us collectors got the better stuff out of there earlier this year as we figured out that it was probably going out of business..I got 3 D-19's and a G-705 MM..There was more that I wanted but you can't buy it all..I spread the word on the internet and helped sell 16 complete tractors in one week..

Heres some of it piled waiting to be hauled off...The 440 AC went to Iowa..

Are they going to keep Cross Mfg. in Mindenmines open? If not, I need to go buy some wheels from them before it is too late. Too bad about Hilltop closing, there was a lot of good stuff there.

The last time I went by Cross MFG was still open but I'm not sure whom owns it..Hilltop will sure be missed....I've been there 100's of times, probably was there 30 times since Thanksgiving when the crusher first arrived..

Friend of mine went to Hilltop one time needing a radiator and front grille assembely for a D10 Allis he was restoring, told him to help himself , wouldn't give a price, thinking it cant be too bad, came out of the yard with it they priced it at 2500,, he tossed it all off to the side and told the guy what he thought,,

I had that happen a time or two when GC was the manager...After him Dave was easier to deal with...Some days near the end you could get stuff really cheap from the owners son..I got a complete D-17 diesel engine for $100..
