Okay, I have been having issues with the Lucuss starter on the 200 Allis, sometimes it sounds like its dragging hard and barely turns the engine over, so I have to keep bumping the start button till the starter finally spins the engine... and sometimes it spins the engine just fine on first press of the button.
Took it apart today and starter looks fine inside, brushes are long.
It may be the solenoid, that is the problem, solenoid has two connections to the starter, one is a lug and the other is a pigtail so evidently the solenoid supplies power through both connections. Kinda makes  checked ebay and got nothing for a lucas starter solenoid, I suppose that will be spendy... so, next thought is, Who has  those hytorq gear reduction starters and what do they cost?  Thanks,

I've seen that happen with poor battery connections. I'm sure you've removed and reconnected the cables at the battery, but have you checked the battery ground?

Usually it is the solenoid on a Lucuss starter. I have one that started the tractor three times before starter went bad that I will sell or can sell you a new gear reduction starter for 300.00.        MACK

Have a Lucas in little Ford diesel on a old NH swather. It was like your discribing. Only used a few days a year, but finally got a new one problems over.

If I got that right that Mack's is gear reduction price sounds OK to me. Get it over with tractor is usless if you don't know if it will start.

Update...  After looking at that lucuss starter and one from another tractor, I figured out this one was one of them after market ones without the name stamped on it... acquired a gear reduction as was suggested by Mack and Ray and put that on, man it is slick... and you got the stud for the battery cables out in the open to use to grab juice from. So today as I walked by the tractor, I snapped a pic of it. Lots of room around it.
