Did you put water in the seed furrow? That will sometimes help. This time of year beans don't do too well. -- we have had two big harvests from ours, but now they are starting to die.-- not something that happens around here.

This has not been the best garden year in this part of the world.--cold wet early then hot dry later and still is. All this will affect beans plus the seed now days is not the greatest!

I still think with all the forest fires and volcanoes plus the nucelar  fallout from overseas added to the mix is having a big effect on our crops this year.--- just my .0002 thanks; ac fleet

How's the rest of the garden doing?  Our 3rd sucession just popped up here in Southern Ontario ( been 80-90*F here all week). They do like their toes moist.

 re: 2nd batch...could be bad(old) seeds. Heck we use $store seeds NOT $$$ ones from 'seed place'. Always had good(80+%) germanation.

Shouldn't matter if yucky eggplant was there last year. lol

Do you ADD compost every year ? grass clippings, leaves, pony poop ??

Any black walnut trees nearby ?

I'm no help but I can feel your pain.  Planted my garden, then had a hard storm.  Replanted 50% of plants after that.  Had to go help mom for a couple weeks, when I left garden looked ok.  2 more hard storms while I'm gone, one of them dropped some serious hail... wiped out most but had a few plants left.  Couple days after returning and weeding, tons of weeds..... grrr, got hit with another hard storm/wind.  Lost some trees, but, garden was just about finished off.  Killed everything but a few 'mater plants.  Can't decide, til entire garden over and seed cover crop, or turn chickens loose on garden and start again next year.  Worst year I've had since I started gardening.  Good luck with yours.

What day did you plant your beans? 

Was this day during the light of the moon? Or dark? 

Was this day also in the sign of the heart as per this site?

I follow this real close and have had excellent results every time when other factors aren't involved. 

Plant above ground crops and flowers during the light of the moon, which is, from a new moon to the full moon. 

Dark of the moon is the day after the full moon to the day before the new moon. 

This is when you plant the root crops - onions, beets, turninps, carrots, etc. 

The sign of the heart is Leo the Lion. 

It's a vital organ. 

The symbol looks like a sperm.

Crops don't do good at all when they are planted during this 2-3 day period. 

But if you want to kill weeds and such, clip them during this time- they'll bleed and die. 

I watched dad time and again wean calves in the sign of the knees transitioning them from the nurse cow to grain without a peep from them. 

He did it one year during the sign of the heart, (unknowingly), and the calves walked the fence and bawled off and on through the day and night. 

He checked the almanac and saw what he did, put them back on the cow for a week or so, then took them off. 

Never heard another sound from them as before unless it was the normal feeding time and he was late getting there. 

Any surgery on the body- unless it's life or death- do it when the sign isn't in that part as you'll recover faster and won't bleed as much.
