I recently purchased a 1979 AC 5050 4wd tractor with 3200 hours which looks to have had scanty maintenance except for oil changes. When I drained the transaxle/hydraulic oil it was white as cream. Obviously water had gotten into the oil. I can't find any ingress site like fill plugs loose. Dipstick was tight with a good o ring. any ideas where the water could get in? I replaced the contaminated oil with tractor hydraulic oil and I may have to do a second flush if there is still water. All the oils in the other components looked fine .

Water can get by the gear shift levers if there isn't a good rubber boot on them.You also

need to pull the screen in the intake line running to the hydraulic pump and throughly clean it.Did you drain the trans/rear at both drain plugs?

Didi't think about gear shift levers. To answer your question I did pull hyd inlet with hydraulic filter and found NO FILTER. Bummer. The magnetic post was thick with metal also. thanks again. I will check the boots. In wyoming we get very little rain, mostly snow so I will cover the tractor of course. I think I will have to keep flushing the transaxle. Yes I did remove the 2 or 3 drain plugs. The tractor hold about 5 gal.
