Recent purchase of model m crawler. Got omm,sm & pm with it. Engine seems to run good. Current problem is the steering clutches. The linkage was excessively worn.removed the top cover and removed and replaced made adjustments as per the manual. Hopefully this will help the steering. The question i have is prior to pull ing off the top cover i adjusted the steering clutch linkage and when i test ran the steering went from barely any to full on braking when the sticks were pulled. I fallowed the manual what did i do wrong?

I may not be understanding your statement, but I don't think the brakes are connected to leavers only the pedals. I don't ever remember running a M but the first crawler I ever operated was a K model.

If you are on a level area not pushing or pulling a load, pulling one lever and it turns very sharply without applying the brake I believe there is something binding somewhere.

so i had to replace a the rhs steering brake and the steering clutch linkage. the n re did the adjustments for both. the only thing that was not replaced was the stick pivot joints, which are pretty sloppy. after it was back together and readjusted the lhs steering is spot on and the rhs is is better but still not as crisp as the lhs. it is getting running out of adjustment and will have to have the steering clutches replaced soon but hopefully will make it through the winter, knock on wood.
