Just got an old cub cadet and i think it needs a new coil. It lools just like a regular ol truck or tractor coil, i was just wondering if a regular ol coil would work? The local lawn mower shop wants 68 bucks for a kolher coil
Thank for any advice. Wil

If you know the part number of the coil, look it up on the internet.  Sometimes, you can get a good deal on Amazon, eBay or some other website.

try one - they all have a ohm rating - but can't see where it would be big deal on a single cylinder . just hook wire from points to the same side of coil posts as present one is .

I bought a new coil for my CC at the local auto parts store that also sells Cub Cadets, was told the only difference between the one I bought (12 volt automotive), was the name on it and the price, like $15.  After putting the new coil on, it still wouldn't start.  Discovered it was the spark plug wire that was bad.

Had a J D 214 mower with 14 hp kohler . Went through 3 or 4 coils, went to J D and got a kohler coil and never had trouble again . Must have kept it at least 20 more years.

Measure the reading across terminals on coil with multi-meter -
seems I have 2 - K341 16 HP and 1 -12 HP Kohler engines out back that need rebuilding - replaced them with a 18 HP Honda V engine on my New Holland tractors

any 12volt, internal style(NO ballast resistor needed) coil will work, least they have for me over the past 30 years. if it hasn't been run in awhile, be sure to clean the points.
