I know it's been discussed before, but what do you recommend to put on my roof shingles to remove the discoloration from the algae/mold/moss that forms on it? I'd thought about a bleach/water mix, but was told the bleach is real hard on the shingles. I want to get it cleaned up as i know it is hard on shingles and shortens their life. Thanks in advance for your responses.

It seemed that my algae kinda turned to stuff that resembled lickens in the shade.
I used wet and forget and it worked just like the labeling touted. you have to be patient to let all the stuff that you kill of up there deteriorate and go away. i am sold on it.

Not sure if this works, I have done it to my own house, and so far is it IS getting better! Put a strip of copper flashing the entire length of the roof, just under the ridge cap, leaving about 2" of copper exposed, and let Mother Nature do the rest. The green stuff on my roof is getting smaller, and smaller, BUT I do have gray shingles with no discolor to them.

X2 on the copper, It don't take much, and is not very noticeable, after a coupla years, in the weather, to give it a patina...

I had that problem a couple years back. I solved it by getting black shingles put on!

Not recommending this, but it works. Use spray adhesive, like rubber cement on the ridge cap, then sprinkle a light coat of copper sulfate granules on the adhesive. Everytime it rains, washes a little sulfur over the algae. Knocks it back for years. Your mileage may vary.

Not sure about Wet and Forget on shingles but used it on my vinyl siding and it worked great.

Seems there are several products made especially to remove these growths and discolorazations - what prevents them is ZINC , seems when zinc reatcs with weather (rain) there is enough leeching of the zinc oxide to kill most of the problems that now forms on shingles I notice white shingles are gray in many areas except areas near flashings that are zinc coated - those places are just like when I put the shingles down .

If anyone is interested I have a sheet, 3x8 foot, or two of copper, and also zinc coated copper.

Thanks everyone. I looked it up on amazon and saw a lot of good reviews. I may get some. (Looks like locally is cheaper than amazon). I may also look at the copper strips as well.

bleach will work, most roof cleaners I know use a biocide instead as bleach can be very difficult to work with due to how toxic it is to the environment. you should scrape the moss off and then spray it with some form of chemical to prevent it from growing back my husband did clean our roof not too long ago but he imported this tool https://roofscraper.co.uk/collections/roof-cleaning-equipment" rel="nofollow - https://roofscraper.co.uk/collections/roof-cleaning-equipment quite heavy but the pole and brushes were easy to work with
