I'm new to this forum. I just bought a maroon belly 7000 cab tractor a month ago and I hope to soon be working the fields with it.

The engine runs great and the power shift works good with nice firm shifts. The transmission is quiet. The trans lube pressure light wasn't ever coming on so I replaced the sending unit and now it only comes on below 900 rpms when the fluid is warm- I have read that this is normal. Transmission/hydraulic fluid/filter have been changed. Differential oil level is correct.

The only concern I have is that there is a heavy irregular knocking/ rattling noise when the PTO is running at idle/low rpms. The noise is coming from the right side of the torque tube. The noise is is loudest at idle and as the engine speed is increased, it seems to get quieter (or is just drowned out by the rest of the engine noise) and by 1300 rpms, the noise is not discernible. The PTO seems to engage/disengage smoothly. The noise will go away when the PTO is disengaged. I haven't yet tried running the PTO hooked to a piece of equipment to see if the noise is still present under load.

Is this noise anything to worry about?

I plan to run a round baler early in the summer and that will put a big load on the PTO's drive train...

There is a tin shield around a big gear that prevents churning oil. That tin shield is what the noise is. Will never cause a problem. MACK

7000's are excellent round baler tractors!

I would guess I've made over 30,000 bales with mine with no problems.

Thanks guys! That gives me peace of mind. It seemed like I got a good deal on the tractor ($5750- it has less than 1000 hrs on an engine overhaul and clutch replacement done by an agco dealer) and I was beginning to wonder if maybe it was too good to be true...
