What brand model of spark plugs should I buy for my WD-45 and what gap should they be set at?

Thanks, Steve

Probably a lot of debate about this topic. Nevertheless, I always used AC-45 spark plugs. For gap I always set about .035. Basically because the owners manual said gap them .030-.040. I never had any issues with that plug or gap so it must be somewhat reliable information.

Hope that helps. Thanks.

yes the AC-45 plug works the best; but the 35 gap is to big' works the best at less then 30' like 28 is more like it on a wd or wd45 d17 an so on little hotter worked better fore me on working tractors.

My WD & 45 have had AC45's forever gapped at .035.Never had a problem. All I'm saying is,it works for me. The WD has been here since new in 49.

For sure! Mine comes off the delivery truck so I'm often burning 6-8 month old gas and I can no longer get non alcohol fuel. It's a wonder anything around here runs.

Does your premium contain ethanol? Usually it doesn't, but you'll pay for it. AVGAS won't contain ethanol either, but you'll really pay for it.

I don't know but would be surprised if bulk truck offers premium.

I don't know which supplier would and which wouldn't. If the supplier also has filling stations that have premium, the odds are they'll bring it to you in bulk too.

Call them. You might be surprised. You may have to make a minimum order, though. I use to order number 1 diesel, but had to take a 300 gallon minimum.

Both my WD and WD-45 Operator's Manuals state plug gap should be set .028" to .032".
I "shoot for" .030!
Point gap is .020" for both a mag or a distributor.

I have in front of me the "operating instructions maintenance and repair parts illustrations" for AC WD tractor that came with dad's new WD in 1949.No copyright date. It says .030-.040 for plugs.Keep in mind this used a mag. Also says use Autolite AN7 or AC45 plugs for gasoline and Autolite A11 or AC47 for low octane fuel.

Thanks for the replies guys!  Where can these AC45 plugs be purchased?  Called NAPA today and they do not sell them.

For the heck of it, I looked at my WC manual which shows a picture of a mag in the text and it gives the plug gap as .030" - .040".

My conclusion, plugs on tractors with mags should be set at .030" - .040" and tractors with distributors should be set at .028" - .032".
