Hello all, We are still on the hunt for a square baler. Not turning up much except for a JD at an auction we couldn't make it to. There's another sale near us this Saturday with an MF 12 square baler. Anybody got any Thoughts or experience with one? Thanks, Brad

I wouldn't be in any hurry. They are for sale all over. Sitting in sheds not bring used waiting for a sale. Wait for what you want.

I had one of those one year was glad to see it go, I don't bother looking at a used small square baler if it isn't NH or JD.

Massey used a knotter totally different than others. Finding someone to fix one not tying is almost impossible and parts are thru the roof. A neighbor had one and finally got it to tie most of the time and then got rid of it. Here in my area there are gobs of NH balers for sale for 2500.00 or less.

Well after spending part of the afternoon reading posts about MF balers on other forums I'm not impressed. Like anything else, some people loved them and some people hated them. Most didn't speak highly of them. We're not in a huge hurry to get a baler right now, but if we aren't actively looking it'll get swept to the side and we won't have one when we need it. It's the last piece of the puzzle though, we're waiting on delivery of an NH 616 disc mowerand a Citrex rake. We're just trying to find a baler somewhat local, we don't have a way to haul one on our own. Shameless, if you don't need that baler anymore just amble out and put some air in the tires. Then hook on to it and start this way. Be sure to get here soon though, I want to load your snow for you to take back home. It was nice of you to share the last couple of weekends but I'm done using it now. Later, Brad

I just got off the phone with the father-in-law. I said if that was the only baler at the sale e should probably just skip it. Then he told me there was a JD 14T there as well. I asked him how it looked. It looks like an old JD baler, some green paint and some rust. Not as nice as the Massey, but a better reputation. We may go for the JD baler but I told him he had to keep is hands in his pockets when the Massye sold. So, any thoughts on a JD 14T? Later, Brad

The 14T was a great baler, but it is very slow. The mechanical kickers on them left a lot to be desired.

My neighbor had 1 almost new when I had to work for him. He had Alzheimer's and couldn't find his way back home. He insisted we run it with a 8n ford. It would miss every 3rd or 4th bale. JD would send their baler man out every time we try'd to bale. He could not find anything wrong with the baler. One day the hay was ready to bale and his wife took him to visit his brother. We hooked the baler to dads D17 AC. It never missed a bale and we got to pull the rack behind the baler. Hay was baled and in the barn when they got home. From then on she took him to visit someone when it was time to bale hay. My experience with a 14t. I had a 214t up to a few years ago, it worked fine. Pulled it with a D17 diesel.

I'm sure there are several good balers out there, I stick to NH, good design from 273 (slow but reliable), 311,315, 316, 326, 565, 575, and I'm sure others in the mix are good as well. What you can afford makes a difference. When I started, was told to put my money toward crimping rolls and a good baler (glad to get that advice). Best of luck!

Thanks for the info Mack, I'll keep that in mind. Anybody know if parts for the 14T are still readily available? Thanks, Brad

I run as old of equipment as you will find in many cases. But I have never heard of someone wanting a baler that is slow and as old as possible.
I can leave hay lay for months without it going bad in this dang near desert I live in. But then you only have a hour or 2 with dew so you can bale it rather than make powder of it. So we like fast baler the same as folks beating the rain coming for it.
More just me trying to get my mind around this than saying how you should be doing things. Maybe Shameless would share some of his pink paint then a almost new one would be different. Good luck finding one that suits what you want.
