What would it take to replace the light switch and cut out with a voltage regulator? I am talking about a B with 6v, magneto ignition. The wiring on the tractor is a mess. I wish to stay with 6v for now. Can it be done effectively?

Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. Misc other equipment that my wife calls JUNK!

Change the entire generator and cutout with another generator and matched voltage regulator. That's the easiest route. There are 6 volt alternators out there, but they are a tad bit pricey. The cheapest and easiest thing to do is switch to 12 volts and a standard alternator.

Staying with a cut out should be fine. Just make sure you get a good cut out. Got one from Steiner for my wd45 and it was China junk. Cover touched terminals and it created sparks. Bought a good USA one from b& b and have had no problems in 5 years.

Actually, a Voltage Regulator is a nice upgrade for the 6V system over the old 3 position Headlight/Charging switch. It isn't necessary to change out the Gennie. The correct VR will work fine with the 6V Gennie. I upgrade a lot of our customer's with that setup. Shoot me the number of your Gennie Mike and I can match a VR to it nicely. I also offer a VR wiring kit for that upgrade to. BTW, if the wiring is a mess, I can build you a nice new wiring system incorporating the VR in the system mounting it right where the cutout was located or fix you up with the remote VR panel that mounts in the toolbox if you want to get real sneaky. Visit our website and check out those upgrades. There's pics there to look at to.  Drop me a PM if interested...
