I have a ca allis with a front mounted 7 foot sickle bar mower.can this mower be installed on a wd-45?connot find any model or any other numbers on the mower.any help would be appreciated.....thx

A #5 could only be mounted on a WD45 with homemade adapters. If you have an 80S WD45 mounting brackets can be had. Is it a pitman stick mower (#5) or "Twin-Wheel" drive (80S) ?

We had a belly mount on a WD, had a double vbelt drive down from PTO gear box.

I clipped a lot of pasture ground, ours and neighbors, one of which I own now.

I don't recall the #.

#80 and 82 mowers were available as mid mount mowers. You would need the correct side mount bracket(a casting) Not sure if #80 bracket will fit on #82 mower, or vice versa... Wink

From the headstock out they are the same but so are the rear mount and trailer mounted mowers. So without all the WD specific mount parts the answer is NO.

A picture is worth a thousand words.....I'm sure someone here could identify the model of the mower if they had a picture.

A better answer could then be given.

I'm sure it could be mounted somehow.....my Dad mounted a John Deere horse drawn mower under his B back in the late 40s with a little help from a welder friend of his.

If I recall correctly there was not a side mounted mower for the WD. However, there was a very good side mounted mower for the WC. Since the frames are basically the same - in fact a WD cultivator will fit a WC - it is possible you had a WC mower with some "jury rigging".

I think the #5 "Side Mount" mower was specifically built for the CA tractor and that may be what J.W. has. That mower could also be fit to the B and C tractors with available adapters.

I believe the 80S and later, the 82S Side Mount mowers came out a couple of years after the D-17 was introduced but attachment parts were available to put them on the WD and WD-45 tractors. These mowers were of the "Twin-Wheel" design originally introduced with the #7 Mower.

Without a picture or detailed description, we don't know which mower J.W. has

80S and 82S mowers are totally different.I've seen brackets for 82S mowers for everything
from a WD to a 180,never saw brackets for a CA but they might have been available.They are a load for a D10-12 so they'd be a load for a CA too.

The 80S and 82S are very different from one another but share the Twin-Wheel design.

In my opinion, the 82S is a much more refined mower and has a much less complicated mounting system than the 80S.

The 80S and 82S are totally different from the #5 which still uses a pitman arm system.

The 80S was available with attaching brackets for all the D series from the D-10 to the D-17 as well as the WD/WD45 tractors.

The 82S was available with attaching brackets for all the D series from the D-10 to the D-19, the WD/WD45s and some of the 100 series tractors.

Neither the 80S nor 82S is mentioned in any literature I have as being mountable on a CA but because of the CAs similarity to the D10 and D12, I would guess it might fit without too much of a problem.

They are both twin wheel drive but the cutter assembly units will not interchange.Also there are several different styles of the twin wheel drive set up,some parts interchange some won't.

And........ some parts will interchange with a little tweaking.

My "82S" has a gear box from a #7.

Apparently, my mower started its life as an early

82S with the light weight "inner shoe" and the 5/8" thick bar.

I found some newer 82S parts and it now has the HD inner shoe and a 3/4" bar.

Bill, you are right! It was a WC mower and the way I remember it went without a hitch, no pun intended. Well maybe a little.

the mower I have on yhe ca is a pitman drive driven off a double v belt pulley.the drawbar has been removed by removing the big pin under the tractor.had to to clear the torque tube..don't know how to put pictures on the computer,i am very luckey to even get it lit up.....

Like Bill said, there was a WC mower but it looks nothing like the #5.

If it were me, I might try to fabricate some mounts.

But.......I believe the #5 is a fairly popular mower for the B, C and CA guys

so you might be better off trying to trade it for an 80S or 82S mower or

selling it and buying one of those.

The 82S is the better of those two.

Hey Brian, You are correct! After reading your post I went to Pop's 1960 AC Price Book - one of my prized possessions - and after researching I found that there were attaching parts for a WD, WD-45, D-10, and D-12 were made for the 80-S mower. (they did not make the 82S till later)
Hey Check the 1960 Prices - Mower Base 80-S $312.20 and the attaching parts $110.00 for a WD, WD-45, D-10, and D-12. You had to add the cutter bar $92.70 - $74.40.

I think New Holland 451 sickle bar mowers are over $5,000.
